Do not want to derail thread but Umar Akmal is immensely gifted. Some of the shots he played against Lee and Tait were amazing, esp. one cover drive on the up. The guy is just a bit impatient and careless.

Yuvi is in great form right now but he has not always been consistent. Someone as talented as him should certainly be averaging more than 37 over a long career. don’t you think so? Even Sehwag’s ODI average should be better than mid-30s

Umar Akmal is a talented cricketer but Yuvi is a talented cricketer who has proved his worth over time. Talent is nothing without consistency over time. The cricket world is replete with examples of prodigous talents who fade away fast.

As for Yuvi’s average, don’t forget that he comes in at numbers 4-6 for India and if the likes of Sachin, Sehwag, Gambhir, Ganguly, Dravid have already played 40+ overs it does not give him enough time to pile up a big score. Yuvi’s average is 37 over 265 odd ODI games and Umar Akmal’s is 39 over 20 games !! Its a lot harder to have a high average over a longer period, not the other way round.

And averages don’t tell the full story. M Hussy averages 52 in ODIs and Tendulkar averages 45. Does that mean Hussy is a better batsman than Tendulkar ?
