Karachi was a beautiful city friend of all. It provided livelihood to all irrespective of colour or language. Immediately on taking over by Zulifqar Bhutto in December 1971 the city came in a little grip of fear or uncertainty for a year or so but generally it did not affect the city life. This uncertainty was due to any one holding a red colour PPP membership card becoming a pillar having his force on government servants, SHOs, etc. But nevertheless life still remained quite peaceful. These PPP card holders never became a collective force of trouble makers or a sort of mafia. The things started to change mid eighties when Ziaul Haq for his political motives manufactured MQM. This move was in fact not that strange as some people today term it because every ruler plays the same technique under different labels to keep his grip on the ruling seat. For example creation of today’s patriots is of same technique. This is a game to divide and rule or cut the iron with iron. But a mistake occurred from Zia and that was that he misjudged the people whom he wanted to use as tools. He had in fact for a change very wisely had thought bringing middle class people as a parallel force but he mispicked the people and could not realize he was picking up “future street bullies” as leader of the newly formed party. Since then every ruler may he be people’s elected Benazir, heavy mandated Nawaz or uniformed-civilian General Musharraf, is under constant blackmailing of MQM and his foreign nationality holder leader. The real national power appears to be in the hands of MQM UK Nationality leader if we see all our leaders wearing cap of President or that of Prime Minister come themselves walking at the doors of Nine Zero to “salam” the photograph of the absent leader who himself never ever went to these Presidents or PMs. Our second grade power holder presidents or Governors always have to accept the charter coming from London like accepting absconders as Governor of Sindh etc. During his recent visit to India, Altaf Hussain has requested India that all his supporters may be given permission to return back to India. According to him Pakistan has failed. General Pervaiz Musharraf is trying hard to put Pakistan back on the track. He has concentrated on many things like eradication of international terrorism (at the cost of increasing terrorism within), achieving peace with India (at the cost creating war like situation at Pak Afghan borders), construction of Kalabagh Dam which he says will be decided in next 6 months (in five years it could not be) etc. I request General Pervaiz Musharraf that in the larger interest of Pakistan, he avails of this God given opportunity, leaving all his other priorities he immediately contacts Indian Prime Minister and request him to accept Altaf Hussain’s demand permitting all MQM supporters to return back to India. General Musharraf should add his personal humble request and strong recommendation for acceptance of this demand by Indian government so that Altaf Hussain and all his supporters return back soonest possible permanently from where they came. When this mid eighties “Bhuta collectors” will leave Karachi, there would be not ghost workers anywhere in KDA Steel Mills, there would not be any water tanker mafia, 70% slow running of KESC electric meters will start running properly, Kundas will vanish. There would not be any court cases facing governors, there would not be any such mass scale illegal high rise building. General Musharraf in the larger interest may charter planes to help transfer of these supporters to India in one single day. As soon as all these hot pots will lave take it as guaranteed 80% of Karachi’s present day diseases like crime, car snatching, day light robberies with asking householders to prepare lunch for present dacoits, running away of industrial from Karachi investors, land mafia all will vanish from this peaceful city. For this transfer even if something is to be spent from national exchequer or by further loan from IFM to give these shifting supporters any “zada-e-rah”, be spent that without hesitation.
