A history of anti-Americanism in Pakistan

BY NADEEM F. PARACHA

In 2009 the monthly Herald published the results of an elaborate survey that it undertook to determine the extent of anti-Americanism in Pakistan. The findings suggest nothing that we do not already know.

Though anti-Americanism during the Cold War (1949-89) was mostly the ideological vocation of pro-Soviet leftists, today (some twenty years after the collapse of the Soviet Union), one can safely suggest that America is experiencing its most detested hour.

It hasn’t been hated across the board with so much fervour as it is today, mainly thanks to the bungling of the arrogant Bush administration and its utter deficiency in the art and skill of empathetic and prudent diplomacy.

However, the anti-Americanism virus — at least in most Muslim countries — today is such that the critique that comes with it is largely rhetorical and at times, rather obsessive-compulsive. DAWN.COM

**As a second generation young Pakistani-American I profoundly disagree with the author and wish to refute him by authoring my thoughts in a civil manner, thus I truly desire to get a fair chance to exercise my right to the “freedom of speech”. **

In the “fevered state of our country”, these far-right “fiery zealots” and their ilk want everybody to be as blind as themselves, yet, if you refuse to be, you are tagged as having a “mob” mentality and conveniently ousted from the clan of the “discerning intellects”.

The funny part is that these cranks, who traitorously portray themselves as true and patriotic Pakistanis and try to represent Pakistan and her masses as nefarious beings, often toe the line of their racist and full of hatred masters.

There is a hierarchy of these “BROWNS” and “COTTON PICKERS” feigns, the top level, of course are the tyrants and autocrats who are on the regular payroll of fanatics, then there is a lower level opportunists wannabes who are aspired often vainly to emulate financial success of their predecessors, these postulants would even falsely point fingers at their own kind just to please their masters.

Interestingly enough these people have popped up all over the internet, every day of their lives, they frantically try to move heaven and earth to reinvent their same old dilapidated stratagems to somehow prove to the world that Pakistan and her good folks are the worse things that can happen to the mankind and that Pakistanis are morally reprehensible for all the bad deeds in the world.

For the past decade or so principal media whose news agenda is increasingly influenced by netherworld have astutely embarked on the bandwagon of furtherance of perfidious doctrines or principles hatched and propagated by this covert movement to achieve their political and religious goals and to abet their image around the world as truthful and honest entities, unfortunately as a result some Pakistanis have come under the spell of this somewhat invisible “warlock”, and decided to jump on the bandwagon of this false propagation against Pakistan and her masses, the stakes are high for them right now, they are abundantly found in forums and blogs, to get noticed and to be rewarded for their utterly inane balderdash against Pakistan and her good folks.

So ladies and gentlemen don’t be fooled by their rhetoric in blogs and forums because Pakistan and the people of Pakistan are absolutely nothing of a sort they are mendaciously ascribed to be.

The educated masses must not only repudiate but also confute these manipulations by adroitly unearthing, maintaining, and then presenting the real truth to the world which can certainly be accomplished by authoring our thoughts and the likes.

Paracha pretty much deletes all the comments except the 'oh good job mr paracha', half of them written by indians and the rest by his own self...

Re: A history of anti-Americanism in Pakistan

Nadeem Paracha, Fasi Zaka, Kamran Shafi, Ardeshir Cowasjee, Pervaiz Hoodbhoy and some more, are a unique breed of west lovers, and they are always biased, and sometimes silly... not worth reading

Re: A history of anti-Americanism in Pakistan

At least cowasjee and hoodbhoy (a physicist) have something going for them unlike the drug laced NFP. He does write some good pieces in dawn sometimes but then you have Hasan Nisar also on record heaping praise on Islami jamiat talba's role in punjab of keeping the universities "islamic" and that he said (quoted) that only a person with daughters would know their valuable service to society. This is the same guy who wants us to look at ourselves (very important) instead of believing in conspiracy theories.

Re: A history of anti-Americanism in Pakistan

how is this any refutation of what NFP wrote. I haven't read what he wrote nor am i a fan of his. But this piece is nothing but the old garbage of labelling those you disagree with as foreing agents.

Re: A history of anti-Americanism in Pakistan

well that is becoz of american double policy and selfish terrorist interests towards pakistan.
