a healthy coverup?

I imagine this topic has been covered but what do you guys use for coverup that you find doesn’t ruin your skin? I have been using MAC forever but I am 25 now and I don’t like the look of my skin. I want to start moving towards better products that are healthier. I have never had issues with acne or breakouts but I am finding myself constantly breaking out now and at this age?! Please help with makeup that will also be better for my skin in the long run! I’m not very fair nor dark so that’s the only reason I use MAC because the colours match awesome.

Re: a healthy coverup?

I find that my skin care routine makes a huuuuuuuge difference in how my make up looks at the end of the day. In fact, I think it makes all the difference.

As for makeup that's healthier...makeup is makeup. It won't help your skin...lots of companies claim their products help skin but the actual helpful ingredients are in a very small percentage and you're only wearing the makeup for a few hours so how much benefit could you possibly be getting?

How often do you wear makeup?

How much do you wear?

What is your skin care regimen like right now?

What are your problem zones?

a healthy coverup?

Thanks for the input Reha! And your right, actually I got a bit lazy but I should of worded it better, I meant to ask what brands are better than others? Like MAC is to much, over time it is so bad! I used to wear a lot of makeup in college but since getting married I've cut down ALOT. Basically on only wear makeuop on the weekends IF I'm going somewhere nice. And when I do I usually wear coverup, concealer (always) and then the rest depends on where like eyeshadows, liner etc.
Don't have any or at least didn't have a specific problem zone. My skin is regular, not to oily or dry but more recently have been breaking out more than I did when I was in college. Every week a few new spots. I have very permanent dark circles and I only usually use a cleanser to wash my face twice or sometimes more a day.

What kinds are of regimens do people suggest? Is mineral makeup better for regular wear? Should I hold off on coverup unless I'm going to a wedding or something? My skin doesn't have a natural glow..

Re: a healthy coverup?

Always use a primer S, it acts as a barrier between your make-up products and your skin. Mineral make-up is def better for the skin but it looks terrible in pictures. Bobbi Brown, lots of textures, coverages and colors.

Re: a healthy coverup?

Try stepping up the skin care -

Use an exfoliating cleanser, oil free moisturizer, sunscreen and maybe a brightening serum like vitamin C. Get a facial every now and then. Over time, our skin starts to look a bit dull and there's nothing wrong with investing in some pick-me-up items.

For makeup, once your skin feels and looks better...you will use makeup less anyway.

For under eye circles you need to get sleep, then you can also vitamin K gels for under eye area. That helped my sister a lot.

For foundation/cover-up, I like full coverage foundations a lot because I can control their coverage very well. They're designed to be worn full but its easy peasy to sheer them out and wear them like a sheer coverage foundation. My preference these days is Lancome's Teint Idole Ultra 24 hour and I love Kat Von D's Lock It Tattoo. I actually mix these sometimes to achieve the perfect finish.

I would also look into CC or BB creams depending upon how you like your foundation to look.

Primer is also KEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

Thanks girls!! Just the advice I needed! I use a primer from MAC but I don't like it much, finds its gives me creases over laugh lines and my eyes! Hate that. Will experiment with more products. Skin care definitely needs a boost. I have always used simple to find type products, never invested in much else. I think it's time.

Re: a healthy coverup?

If you're ever confused about what to buy...always look up stuff on makeupalley...I lovvvvvvvvvve that website and have found many many many products in my makeup bag currently because of it. If I am curious about a products that sounds like its the one for me - I'll go to Sephora or Nordstrom and get a sample of it. Then I'll buy.

a healthy coverup?

Ahhh gotcha!! Thanks reha!!! Do you like shopping at ultra? Or still prefer seohora?

Re: a healthy coverup?

Yes....makeupalley is a MUST before buying MU/hair products! :) I also go to MU counters/Sephora and get samples before purchasing.

Ulta & Sephora aren't comparable b/c they carry different brands. Sephora is mostly high-end brands which are not carried at Sephora. On the flip side, Ulta carries many drugstore/polish brands which are not carried at Sephora. Ulta also does their $3.50 coupon often which helps too.

Re: a healthy coverup?

^ I have used their coupon many times...lol

Ulta is closer to me so if I need something like an iron or a product I know they carry like UD makeup or skincare like philosophy...I'll just pop over there. Sometimes I get my hair toned there too if I am in a rush. But they don't give samples at all so I still end up going to Sephora or Nordstrom when I want to try stuff. I don't like returning beauty products if I don't like them...feel guilty :(
