Someone e mailed me this link to a new book..does anyone have an idea about what the writer is referring too?
In the Belly of the Green Bird : The Triumph of the Martyrs in Iraq (Hardcover)
by Nir Rosen
The title is a reference to the Islamic idea that martyrs’ souls are flown to heaven in the belly of a green bird,
Re: A green birds stomach?
Masruuq (radiAllahu anhu) said: "We asked Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud about this verse: “And do not regard those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead, rather, they are alive with their Lord and being provided for."
[Surah ali' Imran, 3: 169]
He said, ‘We asked about that and the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said, “Their souls are in the insides of green birds, having lanterns suspended from the Throne, roaming freely in Paradise where they please, then taking shelter in those lanterns. Their Lord cast a glance at them and said, ‘Do you wish for anything?’ They said, ‘What shall we wish for when we roam freely in Paradise where we please?’ And He did that with them three times- when they saw that they would not be spared from being asked again, they said, ‘Oh Lord! We would like for You to put our souls back into our bodies so that we might fight for Your sake once again.’ When Allah saw that they were not in need of anything, they were let be.’
[Muslim, at-Tirmidhi, an-Naa'i and Ibn Majah]
Re: A green birds stomach?
Some scholars interpret the green birds to be some kind of a flying machine, which the souls of the martyrs will use as a means of transportation in Jannah.
and Allah knows best.

I am sure there are people who have more knowledge than me in Arabic language. I read the following passage in Quran translation by Yousaf Ali;
019:068 So, by thy Lord, without doubt, We shall gather them together, and (also) the Evil Ones (with them); then shall We bring them forth on their knees round about Hell;
019:069 Then shall We certainly drag out from every sect all those who were
worst in obstinate rebellion against (God) Most Gracious.
019:070 And certainly We know best those who are most worthy of being burned therein.
019:071 Not one of you but will pass over it: this is, with thy Lord, a Decree
which must be accomplished.
019:072 But We shall save those who guarded against evil, and We shall leave the wrong-doers therein, (humbled) to their knees.
I don't know if I got the meaning right in 19:68; the underlined means Good and evil people. Again 19:71 I think all people.
Then in 19:72 there is segregation of good and evil. Good one taken out and bad one left in.
Now if it talks about both good and bad people aren't Shaheeds part of Good people or is it totally different category?

the souls of the shuhda will be in paradise until day of judgement.........then there Allah will return thier souls in thier bodies.

Re: A green birds stomach?
Hareem maybe I got your meaning wrong, are you saying they have to go through retrial. ![]()
Re: A green birds stomach?
shuhda won’t have any trial on the judgement day inshaAllah …thier souls will stay in green birds until day of judgement then on the Day Allah will return thier souls into thier bodies and then they will enter jannah with thier bodies…

To my best of knowledge, my interpretation is that:
"Martyrs will stay alive till the Day of Judgement. On that day, no one (of mankind & jinn) will be alive (including the martyrs). They will be judged, and where ever they enter (hell or heaven) after judgment, will be in the *afterlife *(life after death)."
I base my interpretation on the fact that everyone will die one day (the referrence to this is either in the Quran or Hadith or both - can't remember).
or.. it might be that the verse which means *everyone will die *excludes the martyrs.
This is the best response I can give, and it may be wrong (my apologies).
Will ask a scholar about this issue.
