when it comes to public figures, i think there is a difference between back biting and mocking someone's looks etc versus their performance in the public role that they are in, politicians especially, and even entertainers, if a reporter or a talk show host etc are really messing things up, what is teh issue in critiquing their performance, format, approach, etc.
