A good read

I’ve not read since i was 11. I used to be a bookworm when i was a kid, totally hooked and then something happened and i just stopped! Apart from compulsory reading that i’ve been FORCED to do i’ve not really read anything and now i don’t know where to start and what kind of things i might enjoy reading now.

So common, i know you can recommend me some good books to read.

Incredibly bored :flower1:

read the posts on GupShup..informative, and entertaining as well... .:D

PS: i don' t read english novels or anything... so can't advice u on that but if u can read urdu try reading Istiyaq Ahmed's.. Inspector Jamshed... i used to read it all the time

DD ki bachi, stop trying to act all clever and go watch the Eastenders omnibus instead. Denis is worth a second look :yummy:

p.s. Try Zadie Smiths White Teeth, one of the best book I’ve read in recent years (even though I read it some years ago ). Or anything by Hanif Kureishi. Or good ol’ Harry Potter. Or Margaret Atwood’s Blind Assassin.

Ansoon, lol. I try to make up for lost reading on GS, but still sometimes one has to look further afield for sources of entertainment :hehe:

Sobi, cow. This is a genuine attempt on my part to bring back the kid in me  I miss reading…

What about Lord of The Rings? I’ve got the whole lot…made a friend buy them me on my 21st and now one year some days later..they’re still in mint condition..you reckon i should try them out?

Aansoon: Ishtiaq Ahmed is some distance away for DD. DD..start with Naunehaal and within a few years you will be able to decipher the intricate plot details of Ishtiaq Ahmed :D

Lord of the Rings is a good read-or so i have heard.

PS: Read the ads in newspapers...kaafi dilchasp hote hain

Persian poetry

Read the Harry Potter books. They have done wonders for non-readers. :)

Re: A good read

well it depends upon what sort of litrature do you like… Tolkein is good read… I bet you will like it… If you like some emotional type litrarure with some fun in it, try Tony Parson…Man & Boy,… Alexandre Dumas’s …all times classic..Count of Monte Cristo, The Stars’ Tennis Balls (Stephen Fry) is the modern version of Count of MOnte Cristo, you might like that as well…

Believe it or not, i haven't seen the Godfather, but i decided to pick up the novel. The novel is definitely worth reading, doesn't slow down or get boring. I couldn't take my nose out of the book until i was finished with it. The Godfather, by Mario Puzo.

you could start off with some light hearted 'chick-lit'.....the kid of stuff you usually get free with magazines. They don't really take much to get into and are pretty short too.

But books I recommend are:

White Teeth - Zadie Smith
Life isn't all Ha Ha Hee Hee - Meera Syal (actually this is one I know you will love, its so funny)
anything by Ben Elton
Memoirs of a Geisha - can't remember the author but its one of those books you won't be able to put down
Brick Lane - Monica Ali (but its pretty new so its only available in hardback which cost a bomb)

Tom Sawyer write by Mark Twine very very good. best book I think but only english. also good is papers I think. Times of India also The Hindu and Indian Express good papers. just put name i adres in internet and type www and com before after. thatsall! same working for nytimes also (ny-= new york)

Tell me your dreams by Sidney Sheldon was a good read. :k: read it a long time ago.

Wana read something funny? Try Sein Language by Jerry Seinfeld. It's an hour read on paperback and is sure to bring some smiles you can relate to.

^^ Amazon has 24 sample pages of this book on their website. Sure helps to pass about 10 mins of your life in the way of a mysterious smile building up all the time.

My Fuedal Lord by Tehmina Durrani. It's not something "fun" to read but it's interesting.
