US executes Aimal Kasi for 1993 killing of CIA employees
(updated at 0715 PST)
JARRATT, Virginia: Pakistani national Mir Aimal Kasi was executed here Thursday by lethal injection for the 1993 murder of two Central Intelligence Agency employees, a Virginia state prison spokesman said.
Kasi was pronounced dead at 0907 P.M. (0207 GMT Friday) at
Greensville Correctional Center, said Larry Traylor, spokesman for
the state Department of Corrections.
"Accompanied by his spiritual adviser, he had a brief 15 or 20 second
conversation and then continued to chant in his native tongue until
asked what his final words were, which were, 'There is no god but Allah'," Traylor said. "He continued to chant until the first drug took effect and then he fell into silence."
Kasi 38, was condemned for the the 1993 killing of two Central
Intelligence Agency employees with an AK-47 military rifle in front
of the agency's Langley, Virginia, headquarters. Three others were wounded in the shootings.
Virginia Governor Mark Warner earlier refused Kasi's request for
clemency after the US Supreme Court denied a last-minute appeal
for a stay of execution.
Kasi's family and the Pakistani government had asked for his life to be
spared and his sentence commuted on humanitarian grounds. His
impending execution also has sparked fears of reprisals by hardliner Islamist, despite Kasi's pleas for peace.
Security around the prison here was tight during the execution and
US authorities in Pakistan were on a heightened state of alert. Armed patrols circled the low white prison buildings and gunman surveyed
the scene from watchtowers. The US State Department issued a
worldwide warning last week of possible reprisals from Islamist
groups angered at Kasi's scheduled execution. Officials said the US embassy in Islamabad and consulates in Peshawar, Lahore and
Karachi were to close as a precaution.
Kasi was executed today at 9 pm EST. I have been following Kasi case very closely lately and was hoping that he would get a pardon from the Va. Governor as a gesture to the world showing that whatever has happened lately in this country America has nothing against Muslims.
But the fact is that Aimal did something wrong. I just wish that people dont associate the peaceful religeon of Islam with such acts.

Kasi was a Pakistani citizen who was executed in the US. Does Pakistan have the guts to do the same had the situation had been reversed with a US citizen being executed in Pakistan.
"Pakistani people would even sell their mothers for a few thousand dollars" Remember this statement? How true does it ring today..

dude did the crime and bought the farm. Its a simple case..
you murder ppl, you get punished.
It would be a different point if you dont believe in capital punishment.
He would have faced the appropriate punishment for his actions no matter where theyw ere commited, he got the max penalty here. Which is fine.
Good man? I dont know about it, you start becoming a bad man as you start doing bad deeds.
otherwise Sharon is basicallya good man who has done a few thousand bad deeds, and so was hitler.
You are a god man until you throw that away and do some bad deeds, the worse the deed, the less of a good person you are.
I disagree with the title of this thread. The good man stopped being a good man when he decided to kill people

Its not the people of pakistan its the sellout governments because kasi has lot of support from people of pakistan for what he did. The government would sell there own mothers i would agree with you but not the people.
Secondly the coward government of pakistan are not man enough to even touch one hair of an american thats how much they scared of them.
As for kasi himself this action is nothing to do with islam he said that himself he did the action because of injustic by American governement on muslims in particular the muslims of palestine. Kasi is from a well to do family very rich with connections this not your typical newspaper headline radical hothead which they like to portray all muslim as. I understand why kasi killed CIA because they are the enemy no doubt.

Where did I say that it was ok Saudi Arabia to do anything similar?? The topic is related US-Pak affairs, how does SA come into the picture? I like how you threw in a non-sequiter, now that queer logic.

First off the quote isnt mine, just to clarify. The govt was supposedly made of the peoples representatives (democracy) so the average people did have a part in this.

allow me.
everyone makes a big hue and cry when something involves the US. every year, pakistanis are executed by the KSA on charges of drug pushing and pimping. no one in pak cares too hoots about that. now a guy who shot two dead americans in america gets the cool-aid, and everyone's out chanting injustice.
point being, people need to chill. it's nothing they dont condone already.

they government of pakistan is not representative of the people they have no link with them what soever.
Elections and democracy in pakistan mean nothing people just don;t give any credibility to elections they all know the results before even the campaigns have begun
