Re: A glimpse of Pakistan's Wildlife
Peacocks still occur in the wild state in the following areas of Pakistan:-
Tharparkar in south-eastern Sindh
Shakargarh and Narowal bordering India
Lehtrar and the Jhelum Valley in Kashmir.
They probably occur in other places and have probably bee re-introduced to Lal SUhanran National Park in Bahawalpur and Kirthar National Park in Sindh. Peacocks are also found at Kalar Kahar and these are feral birds.
Peacocks are found commonly over most of India from deserts to Himalayan high altitude forests. Why are they rare in Pakistan then? The biggest problem was hunting. Peacocks were found in the Mughal emperor Babur's time in Bajaur. They probably occured over much of Punjab, Sindh and present day Khyber-Pakhunkhwa.
