the religous parties appear to be having a lot of support in pakistan but this is only after PPP abnd PML have been disabled forcibly that we r seeing this happen.....if anyone thinks replacing mushy by religous parites is democracy i franky dont agree at all..
verizon then you need to ask yourself is musharraf doing enough to ensure people of pakistan are going to choose the "right" one? i mean this way any one can jump in and say i dont think people are able to make the choice so take it out of their hands. That means tomorrow if jamiat e islami takes charge they will have the right to say since the certain class of pakistan isnt familiar with islam they are exempted from voting. Doesnt work that way, musharraf cant advocate democracy when he is a dictator.
That being said i dont like mushy anymore than the other loosers, question is if not mushy then who?
Wise One and Lajawab, Dont mean to derail the thread. I have no issues if the JUI or Hizb-e-Islami comes to power and represents all people, the issue is that these parties have hidden agendas very similar to MB in egypt. Now if JUI and HI want to stand in elections WITHOUT uttering a verse NOT using the mosques as their campaign headquarters and NOT using a book as their symbol and telling people that they will be kafirs if they dont vote the book, I have no issues. The problem boils down to education, the masses are not educated and the ones with basic education still get under the influence of maulanas, these parties know how to use people.
Mullahs with mosque loudspeaker are very lethal and detrimental to society like plaque buildup on teeth, Mushie should clean em up and then recommend that we brush regularly to avoid build-up.
I don't think Pakistanis have the stomach for hardships. Democracy takes work, it is an evolving principle. I am with Madhanee on this one, the only people who thwart democracy in Pakistan is the army. they very concept of the armed forces dictating governance in a country is antithetical to popular democratic movements. The army, instead of being a servant to the people, actually enjoys a messiahnical status. It is simply not healthy.
The other question you have ask is what is the agenda that the army led gov't's have advanced in the country regarding economic growth. people can hold off on political freedoms if they are making money. Countries like China know that sooner or later they will have do away with the existing political paradigm. Freedom is an addiction, from economic freedom, the population craves political freedom. The army to date has not been able to create a secotr of growth that can propel a country of 160 million people forward. Handouts and rewards of a billion or two here and there do not make for generational wealth creation. In an ever competing world the luminati of Pakistan (or gupshup)_ should seriously think about where ar eth eopportunities going to come for people of a country where populaiton growth rates are one of the highest and long term economic growth looks like the cliffs off of pebble beach.
Factor in religious thuggery and you have a long and hard road ahead.
on this i agree with mad. and verizon who the hell are you to decide whether pakistan is ready for democracy or not. with more than 300+ million population, are u the only genius left to decide that?
Fact..everytime dictators were negotiating ( or bailing out!) an exit strategy for a return to democracy in Pakistan "a twist of fate" happened and Uncle Sam bailed the dictator out..
Thanks to the faujis antpathy towards mainstream politicos you have the MMA lot and people partial to the MMA very much in ascendancy. Anyway I very much doubt Mushy will allow a fair election..we have local elections coming up in the August I believe and anyone in the know..is well aware of how things are being rigged to ensure "favourable results"
My my the qaum that only listens to lathi is now waking up. Arethe 300 Million people ready to decide who they want? Lets see the contenders
The old dracula "Benezir Bhutto"
The geezer "Nawaz Sharif"
Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman" with the pubic hair on his face
Did I miss anyone Oh yeah
Imran Khan A hashish smoking playboy.
Hey might as well tell a comedian to stand in elections atleast he will keep us amused.
InMyHumbleOpinion(IMHO)....pakistan needs democracy and this whole musharraf crap needs to go. mushy and some of you might think that he's doing the right thing by staying on and developing a grassroots democ. setup.
the truth is, if ur never gonna trust your own public to vote for a popularly elected government then shame on you and get ready for another 50 odd years of having two set of people in the country. one set being the urban rich and educted ones and the other being the poorest of the poor who dont understand no ****.
Now now verizon..you live in Amrika..Amrikans should no better then most that to expect iture from politicians is expecting a bit much..even so that is no reason to not support democratic politics. Btw you do know Rangeela passed away recently?
Verizon you do agree that Pakistanis have more than two choices, good for them. We all know that what we end up-with with just two choices. By the way there are other people who are willing to “Serve” in pakistan who dosent belong to any of the options you have mentioned.
^^MM Yes variety is present however the top two keep popping up. As long as the person in power can be held accountable (govt of chks and bals), I am ok with, mushie the militarys friend, US friend, now Indias friend, friend of mullas, everybodies friend, my friend, your friend, he is the new jesus, better than mirza. He is good for the country, and good for authoritarian secularists like me. These muslim fundos, MiniMe have hidden agendas my brother, they should never be in power. Pakistan was founded using religion as an excuse, Baba Qaid our founder didnt want an islamic state but a secular state. Crazy mullahs tried itin Afganistan unsucessful, in Iran they took over and they hold on to power, once the mullahs learn to share and play nice, they will be welcome (but no sharia or draconian islamic ummah thing).
Ease up V; you are beginning to worry me. Take a holiday, relax, go to your barfing dog, may be borrow some hash or something and stop meeting up with madhanee, if he would have humoured you, you wouldn’t be ranting now. That means anything can set you off.
Verizon jee doesn't rant...He's a father of three kids, so that alone makes a few levels above me...
It's just that what he says is deeper than many, yet not deep enough...It's because he has simply chosen to be one of the faithful sheeps of popular opinion...
I have no doubt he is a good, knowledgeable person, it's just that marching to the media bandwagon, dims that shine that defines a thinker...
When I first found out that Verizon jee is actually Mo3's husband, my whole perspective changed...Initially I thought he was just a kid with good schooling, but later found out that he's one other old-timer that doesn't have a life...:D
Its such a complicated sitution. Free and fair elections will most probably put forth a muslim fundamentalist government at both the provincial and the federal levels. This is something that both the bureaucracy and the moderate Pakistanis have been trying to avoid for a long time.
It appears though that the time to swallow the bitter pill of a religious federal government is fast approaching and we should accept the ground realities if we want to grow up as nation. Then whatever consequences it brings for us, at both the national and the international level, we would have to deal with them.
To be honest though, seeing the way MMA goverment is running the NWFP and their likeness for the Taliban and blind extremism, just the thought of them being the rulers is suffocating.
