A Funny thing happened on the way to losing jobs in the US

Remember all the hue and cry from the left about GW’s tax cut causing recession and job losses before the election. We don’t hear much about it from the “mainstream” media or our “mainstream” guppies, but **700,000+ new jobs have been created in the US in the last three months alone. **You’d think Kerry and the Democrats won the election and reversed all of the GOP’s economic and tax reforms. NOT.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. employers created a surprisingly large 274,000 new jobs in April and added more workers in each of the two prior months than first thought, the Labor Department said on Friday in a report that eased fears about economic growth.

The April jobs total far outstripped Wall Street economists’ expectations for 170,000 new jobs.

Further underlining the surge, the government said 93,000 more jobs were created in February and March than it previously reported – 146,000 in March instead of 110,000 and a whopping 300,000 in February instead of 243,000.

Re: A Funny thing happened on the way to losing jobs in the US

Yeah, just like you haven't mentioned the deficit in a long time bhaijan.

Re: A Funny thing happened on the way to losing jobs in the US

Most of the jobs created were government jobs. I mean i dont doubt that economy is improving and jobs are increasing but the stat is a bit misrepresenting.

Re: A Funny thing happened on the way to losing jobs in the US

Bush’s mandate gets shutdown and job growth goes up, go figure.

Meanwhile unemployment remains at 5.2%

Hourly wages of college graduates fell for the third year in a row.

Employer-provided health insurance is down for college grads.

And 49 months after the recession began we have seen the lowest job growth compared to the 6 other U.S. economy slowdowns.

Great job Dubya!

UTD: Care to guess the average unemployment rate during Clinton’s 8 years? Hmmmmmmm… The Winner is: … ** 5.2%!!! **

It’s nice to see that you also posted a chart that clearly demonstrates the recession was another legacy left to the American people by Clinton.

And that chart … however small the growth rate in jobs has been, it clearly shows job GROWTH since Bush took office. Seems I recall you and a lot of lefties bashing poor GW during the election with what are obviously FALSE claims of job losses under his watch.

And, this latest great news on job creation follows on the footsteps of the news out earlier this week that unexpectedly high tax receipts have dramatically reduced the projected budget deficit. I know you lefties will never figure out how lower tax rates can possibly result in higher tax receipts. Give all these rich folks tax breaks and they end up paying more in taxes. Read Ayn Rand if you’re confused about this.

Re: A Funny thing happened on the way to losing jobs in the US

Myvoice, where's the millions of jobs Bush promised? Nadda here. New jobs today are paying less than yesterdays.

Hopefully the economy will garner strength but I wouldn’t break out the economy “Mission Accomplished” banner yet myvoice.

And Clinton lowered the unemployment rate from what Bush I and Reagan gave him so don't even try to compare Dubya's performance to Clintons, Dubya will be left on his knees.

Re: A Funny thing happened on the way to losing jobs in the US

According to your source, the hourly wage for college grads has dropped from $23.04 to $22.41. Oh…boo hoo. Because of the Bush tax cuts, at a $46,000 annual income, that drop is more than offset by a lessened income tax obligation. While it may be premature to raise the Mission Accomplished banner, the sky is defitnitely not falling Chicken Little.

Clinton is to be given some measure of credit because we had a great economic surge that occured during his watch. The guy sitting in the chair gets the credit for the good and the blame for the bad regardless of whether he was really responsible for either.

But don’t forget that much of that surge was fueled by massive speculation in the stock market that came home to roost when he left office. An awful lot of wealth was created on paper that disappeared almost overnight. Further, Clinton inherited an expanding economy that saw the unemployment rate dropping from 7.6% to 7.0% in the 6 months prior to him taking office. Bush inherited Clinton’s recession and an unemployment rate that went from 3.9% to 4.2% in the 6 months before he took office.

Re: A Funny thing happened on the way to losing jobs in the US

So Clinton = bad, Reagan, Bush I, Bush II = good. Pathetic.

Duel twin Deficits, a loss of world prestige (which by the way is costing the U.S. billions in foreign tourism dollars), 187 billion dollar Iraq war is what Dubya has given the country.

4 days later and I still get a kick out of the fact that you opened a thread to celebrate the Economic growth that has taken place in the last 3 months. But hey why not celebrate, the debt ceiling has been raised (again) by $700+ million and now stands at $9 Trillion dollars.

Re: A Funny thing happened on the way to losing jobs in the US

UTD: You apparently didn’t read my post very well. I did give some credit to Clinton. It’s you, not I, my friend, who seems to look at everything through 100% partisan eyes.

The facts are what they are. Neither you nor I can change them.

Fact: Clinton came into office in a growing economy with a decreasing unemployment rate. Please don’t tell me you want to dispute that fact.

Fact: GW Bush came into office in a recession with an increasing unemployment rate. Please don’t tell me you want to dispute that fact.

Clinton didn’t do anything to screw up the economy and we had a great 8 years during his watch.

Bush had different circumstances to deal with. In fact, so many economic negatives that he did not create converged at the same time that we are actually pretty darn fortunate that our recession didn’t dip into depression. Now that we’re chugging along in the right direction, let’s hope that Bush, like Clinton before him, doesn’t do anything to screw things up.
