Re: A friend asked this question about the Prophet...

Where did you get that from? The story goes that Khadija admired the Prophet for his honesty and hard-work, etc (his virtues, sum them all). He worked for her so she knew him well.

As I said she was directed by her cousin Warqa Bin Nawfal, she set a plan to check him. As she was aware of signs of coming Prophet. So when she saw that he passed the test, she married him.
And here is more about other wives..........
And Sayyedah Aisha. I already explain the reason why Prophet married her. But here is in brief sence.
As you know Sayyedna Abu-Bakr was his closest friend. His only companion in Hijrat-e-Habsha, in Cave when they hided from Kufaars. Allah described these events in Holy Quran. So to make this relationship more strong and ever lasting and also to pay tribute to his friend, Prophet married his daughter Sayyedah Aisha Sidiqah.
She was most genius one of women in her era. She preached Islam to women. Women of Arab came to her and asked so many faminie questions whom they hasitated to ask directly from Prophet as he was a man. Mostly she answered them on the spot by her own opinion and also by Prophet orders. Some times if she didnot know the answer, she asked them by Prophet.
About Sayyedah Umm-e-Habibah (sister of Abu Sufiyaan) here are some interesting facts.
As I already mentioned she was sister of Abu Sufiyan so she was one of women whom belong to respectful families in Arab. She was married to a non-muslim man, as she was non-muslim. But she embraced Islam after some time. Her husband died by some reason, so she was left helplessly because Abu Sufiyan didnot accepted her as muslim. He tried to convince her to return to the previous religion, but she didnot accepted it at all. So there was no one to took care of her. She suffered from hunger as she dont have money to buy it.
When Prophet migrated to Habsha, he came to know about her. So he sent proposal to her as he wanted to help her. So Najjashi (King of Habsha) helped them and he also bound them in relationship of husband and wife, as he was also a muslim before preaching like Warqa Bin Nawfal. He also gave Haq Mehr of Sayyedah Umm-e-Habibah. it was a worthy one, to help them.
I forgot to mention another name of Umm-ul-Mu'mineen, Sayyedah Umm-e-Salma. She was also a widow and had a son called Salma, its an arabic name so dont get bothered by its faminity.
Sayyedah Maria Qibtiya was from a famous tribe of Jews. So Prophet married her for political reasons. Some say she was not her wife but a slave (Londi). But it does not matter as Qur'an has saperate laws for Slave Women and for Liberal Women (Azad Khuwateen).
Marring Sayyedah Zainab Bint-e-Hajash I already told the stoey about it. So here is in brief sence.
She was married with Sayyedna Zaid bin Harris. He was slave of Prophet but Sayyedah Zainab was from rich family. So this relationship could not last long because of social difference. And this is the most interesting point, Allah bound Prophet and Sayyedah Zainab bint-e-Hajash in marriage relation. Why? here is the reason as Allah said," I did this so people must know that their adopted sons are not like their own sons. And they can marry women which they divorce or got widow."
Sayyedah Safia was a princess. But her country was captured so she was brought to him like a slave. So for political matter, Prophet set her free and married her. Her real name was different but she was called Safia because in Arabic Safia means Maal-e-Ghanimat.
