Re: A friend asked this question about the Prophet…

Firstly 9-10 wives was no biggie in our Prophet :saw:'s society, people married even more.
Most of the Prophet :saw:'s wives were widowed and old and not particularly attractive (in the wordly sense).
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong but I think the order to have only 4 wives max was after his marriages, his wives by then were ‘mothers of beleivers’ and nobody could or would marry them after that.
Of course being a man he must have been attracted to women but Allah even put a ban on him marrying more wives than the ones he already had.
If the Prophet :saw: had wanted he could have had the most beautifull women of Arabia like he was offered by the pagans for abandoning the call to Allah but he declined, even later when he virtually became the ‘king’ of Arabia and of the hearts and minds of its people he could have chosen the most beautifull and youngest Arab girls for his wives but no he only married one virgin (our mother Aaisha) and the rest were all divorcees and widows.
