Hi everyone, i was watching this documentary last night on PBS called “Roots in the Sand” which is about the punjabi south asians who had settled primarily in the california region in the 1920’s, the stuggles and experiences they had encountered.
If you do get a chance to see this doc.. please do so.
I have not seen the documentary. I love PBS but with so many other movie channels and remote in mem sahib's control, I have been missing all the good stuff on PBS lately. I think I will try to be more assertive at home and put the remote control where it belongs:)
I have read about Dr. Dalip Singh Saundh who was the first Asian American Congressman in USA and that was 50 years ago. It was a great achievement for him and minorities at large. No Indian/Pakistani has ever excelled that much in national American politics after him.
Wow amazing, the earliest I had met anyone who came over was an Indian muslim family that came here in the early 50s, but I guess this was before the enflux of the mid-late 80's!!!
There are lot of families in BC who came to Canada in 1920's i think their is website outlining the history of Sikhs (indians) in North America. I will post it as soon as i will find it.
