A distant Earth-like exoplanet 'could have life'

Astronomers have detected an Earth-like exoplanet that may have just the right kind of conditions to support life.

***The first exoplanet orbiting a star was detected more than a decade ago. ***
Since then, nearly 500 other worlds have been found beyond our Solar System, many of them Jupiter-like gas giants.
Now, astronomers are hoping to spot more exoplanets where life could be possible.
“We’re at exactly that threshold now with finding habitable planets,” said Paul Butler of the Carnegie Institution, a co-author of the study.
Dr Vogt agreed: “The number of systems with potentially habitable planets is probably on the order of 10 or 20%, and when you multiply that by the hundreds of billions of stars in the Milky Way, that’s a large number,” he said.
“There could be tens of billions of these systems in our galaxy.”

My sweetheart is living on some exoplanet i m sure. I always knew he will be someone out of this world :faizy:

Re: A distant Earth-like exoplanet ‘could have life’

FT my sweetheart is living with uuuu so pleeez take care of herrrrr, howz u peeep day so far ? :@:

Apart from tht sheyn everythg is possible , u jst need som wil to live anywhereeeeeeeeee , life is possible everywere as long as u as u r ready to scrafise ur luxuries for some beter cause to help others :@:

Another reason astronomers consider Mars as a likely location for life is because there is a good possibility that Mars is in the habitable zone. The habitable zone is a theoretical band of space a certain distance from the Sun in which conditions are optimal for the existence of carbon-based life. Unsurprisingly, Earth is in the middle of the habitable zone. Although astronomers do not know how far this zone could extend, some think that Mars could be in it.

Most astronomers are looking for life that is carbon-based and similar to life on Earth. For instance, the habitable zone only applies to favorable conditions for supporting carbon-based life, and it is definitely possible for forms of life that do not need water to exist.

Astronomers do not limit themselves to our Solar System either, suggesting that we should look at different solar systems. Scientists are planning to use interferometry–an investigative technique that implements lasers, which is used in astronomy as well as other fields– to find planets in the habitable zones of other solar systems. Astronomers believe that there are hundreds of solar systems and thousands of planets, which means that statistically the odds are favorable for finding another planet that supports life. While NASA develops better probes, the search for life continues.

Re: A distant Earth-like exoplanet 'could have life'

These potentially habitable planets can support some form of life not necessarily human life because any life forms that evolve on these planets will have to be able to adjust to the planet's varying climate and humans cannot very easily do so. On Gliese 581G, for example, one side of the planet is always facing the sun and the other side is always in the dark. There's a reason why Allah mian decided to make earth the way He did... earth is really the only planet that provides optimum conditions for human survival.

Some life form, intelligent or not,* can* exist on these exoplanets... whether it *does *or not, only time will tell.

Re: A distant Earth-like exoplanet ‘could have life’

Besides as if thiers not enough variety among as Humans, i’d dread to think what Aliens might come here or we might bump into…out there.

On a sci-fi note it would be a nice challenge for mankind though if we were invaded by something Alien that could potentailly kill us all off, itmight just give Humanity a chance to work together against a common outer enemy.

Mind you i could not possibly hope for anyhting more than facing slow moving vicous ten foot tall man eating aliens, just think of the combat potential? :champ:

Re: A distant Earth-like exoplanet ‘could have life’

Aren’t humans ashraf-ul-makhlooqaat though :hmmm: we’re supposed to be the ismartest… or is that only valid on planet earth?

Re: A distant Earth-like exoplanet ‘could have life’

Sure we are supposed to be the smartest and we are indeed the smartest… were humans were the best, besides in all sci fi movies we always win in the end anyway.

However some animals are still capable of beating humans to a pulp, and some can outsmart a person in thier own environment, for example against a leopard who is a man eater most human adults dont stand a fighting chance… against a Grizzly bear or Hippo or Rhino you might as well keel over. Smartest dont mean you will not mess up or be eaten by something bigger.

No doubt there might be Aliens bigger and more fearsome than ourimaginations could conjure… but like always i’m confident humans will win in the end… for better or worse. :cb:

Re: A distant Earth-like exoplanet ‘could have life’

^ thats all true.

But I was thinking more on the side of advances in technology … why are the so-called UFOs, supposedly designed by aliens, so complex and so fast that humans can never design something similar … thats something i’m not ready to believe… Sure humans can be eaten by the aliens just like they get eaten by animals all the time but, when it comes to technology, I doubt that aliens will be able to outsmart us humans! :smooth: We humans are really full of ourselves innit!

Re: A distant Earth-like exoplanet ‘could have life’

:naak: i am moving there as an alien. they will treat me as royalty. (ok not really) but bye planet earth, earthlings are too mean

Re: A distant Earth-like exoplanet 'could have life'

^ i will send you pakoras every weekend!

Re: A distant Earth-like exoplanet ‘could have life’

Yeah innit.

I agree humans in my view are superior in technology, but as a firm believer of my faith i cannot rule out the possibility that Aliens and other undiscovered anomalies are out there, i am not the first to suggest possible links between Alien abductions and demonic abductions of bygone days both have simmilarities and it’s highly likely that a lord who created beings from fire could well have made men of stone and women of water too…

However until i run into one i wont know, and perhaps it’s better for the Alien too… if it ran into me it might think Humans were too ugly, barbaric, uncouth and stupid to be worth much. :smokin2:

Re: A distant Earth-like exoplanet 'could have life'

Pingu some Aliens might eat you anyway... stay here you have David Attenborough he'll save you from meanies.
