A Difficult Situation...

A scholar advised me that one should always return home with a gift, no matter how minor it is, as it increases love between us and our beloved ones. (According to a hadith). Even if a person doesn’t find anything else he should bring home few stones as a gift, as this “feeling of sincerity and care” helps in making place in the heart of our beloved ones.

But the problem is that my mom and my wife consider it wastage of money. They are happy when I bring gifts for other members of family but they become naraaz when I bring for them.

So is it alright if I return home with gifts that doesn’t cost money. Like saying “Salaam” or a “smile”…etc. Will it still be counted as gift in terms of Sunnah ?

Please advise soon.

Well.....

what else would a wife want when her husband comes home with a smile on his face..........same goes for the mom it'll make her happy.

I think, to any wise person even a smile wouldnt be any less than a gift.

^^^ I agree a smile or a hug is a gift in itself, which will mean so much more than anything material

Absolutely a smile is a gift. You can give a gift without even buying anything. Its the little things that count like hugging, smiling and generally showing affection.

a smiling happy man in a good mood is a gift in itself :)
