**Boy’s Parent to Girl’s Parent: **We need hand of your daugher for our son.

This is very a very common line which we hear whenever there is going any ‘rishta-dari’. I wonder why they just ask for a ‘hand’ rather then asking her completely, as she is.

"asking for hand in marriage" is not just a desi phrase. its commonly use in many cultures including the west.
