A child called 'IT'

Anyone read this horrific Story?

Mem Sahib - The title sounds familiar - sorry, who's the author?
As long as we're on the subject of "horrific" stories, if you have time I strongly suggest reading "Give me my father's body" by Kenn Harper. It is a historical book; after you have read it, it will just leave you stunned. Try to get a hold of it if you haven't already read it.

Hi Nadia..

this book is the first part of a trilogy, by David Pelzer,

as for your other book, ill ask at the library or book shop - thanks

Mem Sahib,
Can you please elaborate on the subject of the book?

Maasi ji…

I will be glad to elaborate on this book for you, I’m not going to use my own words coz quite frankly after reading it - theres not much anyone can say…

I’ll just type out what it says on the back cover…

  • As a child Dave Pelzer was brutally beaten and starved by his emotionally unstable alcoholic mother, a mother who played tortuous, unpredictable games that left one of her sons nearly dead, She no longer considered him a son, but a slave, no longer a boy, but an ‘it’
His bed was an old army cot in the basement, his clothes were torn and smelly, and, when he was allowed the luxury of food it was scraps from the dogs bowl.
The outside world knew nothing of the nightmare played out behind closed doors…

Dave Dreamed of finding a family to love him and call him their son, it took years of struggle, deprivation and despair to find his dream and make something of himself in the world..

A child called ‘IT’ covers the early years of his life and is an affecting and inspirational memoir of one child’s determination to survive…

Hope this is ok for you

I`d find that really disturbing......dunno if I could read owt like that.

Yikes!
Gave me goosebumps.....dunno if I can read this now but it would be something interesting to analyze.

Any thoughts on why a mother would do this to her child? Of course she was disturbed....but what might have lead to her circumstances?

Hmmmmmmm this is a book that once you start - you have to finish!

Maasi ji - It gave you goosebumps reading that - think about how I felt reading the book, I read it in 2 hours, with a box of tissues and at one point I felt sick

Theres one part where while she’s not giving him anything to eat, he steals some hotdogs from the school groceries van and coz he hasnt eaten for so long he hardly chews the food and swallows it almost whole.. and when he comes home, his mother makes him vomit it out ( just to check if he has found food elsewhere) and when she sees the hot dogs come out she then beats the hell out of him - and makes him eat the same vomit back again!!!1

Its really strange because in the beginning the mother is ‘perfect’ she feeds the children, clothes them, takes them out, he has some happy memories, but then it all goes wrong and surprisingly - only goes wrong for him - not for the other siblings…

The mother partly blames him for the troubles she’s having in the relationship with his father…

I must be spoiling it for you
Read it for yourself then we can compare!!

Mem

Re: A child called 'IT'

It actually made me cry.

I have the whole triology (A Child Called 'It', The Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave) in one compilation called My Story by Dave Pelzer.

The fact that it's a true story makes it worse, I'm 2/3 of my way through and have read the first two chapters and just started 'A man named Dave', all my ladyfriends and ladyrelatives seem to have read it but my guyfriends think it sounds boring and that I'm a sad git for reading stuff like that...

Toucing book, I just want to finish it now and put it down becuase I think it's got me subconciously depressed and even the girls at work are noticing..
