A Canadian's point of view on the New Orlean's situation

With all the global point of view threads popping up I thought I should post this just so that the Canadian guppies don’t feel left out…

*Please, please don’t believe what you’re hearing from the America media. There are tens of thousands dead, tens of thousands trapped by floodwaters starving and dying of thirst and disease, those who did escape are a wave of millions of homeless people who’ve lost everything that aren’t being accommodated in any organized way. Please, please encourage any of your corporations operating in the area to help - offers of help from governments aren’t being accepted. The mayors of cities are begging for help, while the government fumbles in total chaos.

Re: A Canadian's point of view on the New Orlean's situation

The devestation is beyond what we can possible know right now.
God only knows how many bodies will be found in attics.

What gets me is how slowly the aid seems to be filtering in. Does it have anything to do with the fact that the majority of the displaced and affected are non-whites? Hope not.

Re: A Canadian's point of view on the New Orlean's situation

^ Of course it does.

Re: A Canadian's point of view on the New Orlean's situation

muzna: that is what the common perception seems to be.

Re: A Canadian's point of view on the New Orlean's situation

I don't understand why doctors and ICU patients trying to evacuate to other hospitals are being shot at? Does devastation and chaos just encourage lawlessness for no reason? Why all the snipers? I've also read that there are many rapes and looting.

Re: A Canadian's point of view on the New Orlean's situation

I just find it quite.....well...hmm...stupid that a thread claiming to be providing Canadian perspective instead provides a link from bbc.co.uk.
