Re: A Bride From Mars
I saw Bushra Ansari's daughter's Mehndi pic here somewhere. She had dark (mehndi) green Shalwar Qameez with gota on Mehndi. She looked good. Since you have chosen red for barat you may go to something of a lighter shade such as beige, fawn, or golden for Valima. Ivory is also very much in these days. About nath, that is something solely u are to decide. Personally, i dont really think a bride is incomplete without a nath. But if u think u can carry it out well than why not. All the best for the day :)
Re: A Bride From Mars
^ I agree. Since I am doing a bold red for the baraat, I should stick with a pastel for the valima.
Thanks!
do you have pictures of the second out fit you wore?
Its really pretty…It’d be great if i can see what it looked like on you :):):)![]()
i love the first pic you posted marena - it’s beautiful! do you have more pics of it?
Heyy firstly Congrats on getting married. I havent been home (pakistan) in 8 yrs and dont worry i felt the same way..
So answering ur questions:
1. I wore a combination of Yellow, red and blue for my mehndi with the duppata in all 3 tones.. and it really lookd amazing. Some girls are still goin for the churidaar look while others might prefer wearing gharara's on their mehndi's. I go a churidaar made and yellow is never out.. just make sure u mix and match nicely and u'll look awesome
Something in a more pastel or light color tone such as pinks, teals, greens and blues are usually the choice of the valima lehnga's. You want to look different and unique.. and do make sure that the person u choose to get ur makeup done from tones it down a little but brings out ur skin tone and the color of the dress..
Mine was a tea pink with lots and lots of dark pink and mint work on it and black stones were fitted in.. (i can email u pics if u want to have a look.. i might not be able to attach them here though..)
I wore a nath and believe me I LOVED IT!!! even though i ended up starving for the rest of the night but it looked amazing and different!!!!
I dont know about brides being delicate.. they might be if they choose to be but you really dont want to end up NOT looking like the bride. I was DECKED out in jewellery.. I swear my earrings on the baraat were atleast a good TONNE each.. and I had to wear them for like 10 hrs before I could take them off.. but at the end of the day.. you only get married ONCE and you wana look and feel your best..
Lemme know if theres anything I can help u with.. I can email u pics of what i wore so that u have an idea.. on how light and heavy the jewellery and makeup were..
Hope you have funnnn and goodluck with everything
Hey there people! So here's the deal. I've been living in the US for many years and haven't been to Pakistan in 6. Now, I am getting married in January '09 and feel like I am completely out of touch with some of the latest trends. I know I want to be a 'red bride' so thats not my issue. What I hace questions about are:
Q1- what colors do brides tend to wear on their mehndis? (I have a feeling yellow is out)
Q2- what color works best for Valima? (Since I'll be wearing a bold red for the baraat, I'd like something different for the valima)
Q3- I have always wanted to wear a nath for my wedding. About a month ago, I got my nose pierced. Do brides usually wear naths these days?
Q4- I've heard brides are very "delicate" these days. I dont plan on looking like a monster from ''bride-al hell'' but I do plan on standing out as the bide.
Hey, I'm the bride! I'm supposed to be over-dressed!
So people, whats the word?

This gives me such a clearer picture of what I want. Thank you again!!!
dont say that :( im not wearing a jhumar or a nath...cos i have a round face & the jhumar lukd awful :( and i hate my nose so dont want anymore attention on it... im so jealous!
apart from that mehndi- im wearing green with yellow, green & pink shadi- maroon with antique gold & purple lehnga valima- off white/cream gharara
dont worry pakistan has sooo much variety ul have no problems finding nething, good luck xx
your jewellery should compliment your lengha perfectly, if not it can ruin the whole look, i had planned on wearing a nath but as my lengha was not traditional a jumar and nath just looked stupid! so i decided not to wear them i wore a jhoomar on my walima which looked fab. you have to go with what suits u, what u feel great in and what goes with ur lengha.

I agree with the idea that the 'look' should be cohesive. If one goes traditional, you should stick with the same sort of jewelry and the other way around---its just just the lehnga.
thanks for your post.
