AssalamuAlakykum (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon you)
In light of the recent elections and political happenings in Pakistan and indeed the eastern part of the world, I feel that a lot of people have expressed their concern over the “problems” and “mis-directed” efforts in the east and what the role and reaction of the Muslims living in the west has been and should be regarding these matters. With this in mind, I’d like to propose the following as a ‘perspective’ that a very well known and well respected scholar wrote:
“Islamic Awakening Between Rejection and Extremism” by Shaikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi
Under the extraordinary pressures of the economic and political challenges of the modern world, it comes as no surprise that many of our young Muslims have reacted by advocating extremist and so called fundamentalist movements.
In this thoughtful and timely book, Dr. Yusuf Al Qaradawi examines the worldwide revival of interest in Islam and attempts to explain why this interest has led so many among the younger generation of Muslims to tread the path of fanaticism and intolerance.
In Islamic Awakening Between Rejection and Extremism, an older and more experienced voice articulates the wisdom brought on by maturity, sound scholarship, and a deep understanding of both the letter and spirit of the Quran and the Sunnah.
Dr. Yusuf Al Qaradawi is a well known contemporary Islamic scholar and prolific writer. He has addressed key issues of relevance to contemporary Islamic thought. He has written over forty two books including “Fiqh al Zakah”, “Fatawi Mu asirah” and “Al Halal wa al Haram fi al Islam”, many of which have been translated into other languages.
