A Blessing in Disguise

I haven’t been to Afghanistan but I get cable, there are 2 afghani channels on air and I watch them quite regularly. The channels are airing allot of programs showing progress that is being made in Afghanistan. Schools, hospitals, community centers, gyms, colleges, universities, jobs are some among a long list of developments.

It really makes me happy to see that a war torn country where war is a way of life has done so well. In a couple of years they have transformed themselves in a progressive state making progress by leaps and bounds.
The apex of my happiness came when I saw two puppets in a program for children speaking in Persian. This is by far the most profound thing I saw happening in Afghanistan (its always the small things). It proved to me that Afghanis have never had the taste of real freedom. This was the first time they had an opportunity and were utilizing every aspect of it.
Well done.
For whatever motive USA invaded Afghanistan they ended up making the country get on its feet.
So without mincing any more words, Good Job.

Disclaimer: This thread is only about Afghanistan and Afghanistan alone other invasions should not be discussed here.

Re: A Blessing in Disguise

You've been drinking cool-aid.

Afghanistan became war ravaged because after the soviet departure, US also left the country without having a reconstruction/peace plan in place. Not only that but the country became a haven for idiots like you-know-who. After Soviet departure, had the West, especially the US, not abandoned the country, they wouldn't be in this situation in the first place and the rest of the world would've been a much safer place. There is nothing grand about fixing what you broke in the first place.

Also, what you see on tele is sponsored by the US govt. May be Kabul is safe but rest of Afghanistan is not.

Don't believe everything you watch on tele under miaN.

Re: A Blessing in Disguise

whats cool-aid is that a whisky?

I don’t wan to go into history, forget it, and concentrate on the present and the future. I think media is a good representative, and unlike you I am in Pakistan so its not only tele its people who come back from Afghanistan, they second what is being shown on tele. That’s why 1 million refugees have moved back.

Secondly I know its only Kabul, but that’s good enough yaar !!Other cities might take note?

PS: Talibans in my opinion were retarded , uneducated scum, AND MAY THEY ROT IN HELL.

Re: A Blessing in Disguise

Why not? Are you afraid to admit that what one breaks, one has to fix?

Had this been done 10 years ago, world would be a safer place now. Using a country for your political gains (against the USSR) cost a hell of a lot more -- short sighted exploitation cost billions 15+ years later.

Afghanistan, Iraq should be serve as great lesson for historian, sociologists and political analysts.

Re: A Blessing in Disguise

No comments on Iraq.

Yup if we go in history you might have a valid point, but at present, you agree or disagree?

Re: A Blessing in Disguise

Soviets brought TV and puppets too...big whoopeee...

Admitidly, the Afghan invasion was a bit different...more justifiable...and it's laugable to give Americans any credit, as their Afghan policy has been more or less let the Afghans do-it....that's not a complaint...that's how it should be done.

Let's give Afghans credit here...the world isn't always about goold old white man 'civilizing' the 'savage'....sometimes good people manage to get things done in rather tough times.

It should also be noted, that Kabul is a glaring exception, to the rule of an otherwise chaotic and in some areas a very resentful Afghanistan.
