A Beautiful Thing

I saw a small clipping in a local newspaper yesterday, and here is what it said:

For the first time in the history of New Jersey State Senate, the assembly was opened by reciting of a Prayer from Quran by a Muslim Cleric. The Molvee said that he prayed, and I paraphrase “May you all be Guided by Allah to make the Laws that are in the best interest of all Human Beings”.

After reading that news, I was moved. I believe it is a step in the right direction to include Muslim Prayers in the mainstream culture and politics of the US. It is customary that the State Assembly Sessions (in many States) are thrown open by prayers.

It is a beautiful thing.

Yar Ahmadi, usually I'm not a strong believer in any particular religion (although I side Islam) but the innate Muslim in me sometimes is quite moved by hearing things like this one.

That is fantastic.

We keep hearing how Islam is the fasting growing religion and I hope it continues to grow. We are very lucky to be born as Muslims but what saddens me is that some of us are drifting away from our religion into the abyss.

This is really very promising news.

It is not directly related, but there is the text of the Senate resolution called “Supporting religious tolerance toward Muslims” at the website provided below.

I would like to add that the site:

is an amazing one. I have personally found it very interesting.

Why not you guyes do the same thing in Pakistan? Give importance to Hindu or Christian beliefs, celebrate their religious functions, declared national holidays.

You guyes want others to give you importance but you won't give it to them, why this double standard?

Pakistan is called "ISLAMIC rebublic of pakistan"

Pakistan was made to be a muslim country so it will always abide to the Islamic way!

U.S in not created for One religious group(it was for Religious freedom)!!!So any religion can grow there as free as it wabts!

That's a very good point Khan Bahader. I wish they give due respect and representation to all religions besides Islam in Pakistan as well.

hm..

interesting.... when did US give a National Holiday for the Eid celebrations of Muslims?..
it just doesn't happen..
but in USA/ Europe the people who are celebrating ther religious holiday do get time off work.. as they do in Pakistan.

Christians get time off for easter, christmas. The whole country gets time off at Christmas.. Hindus get time off for Diwali etc.
