a beautiful blast from the past

outstanding comedy… Khalid Abbas Dar was brilliant in this one. look at the shararat in his eyes when he starts singing and the crowd reacts… he’s loving it… also love how he deliberately tries to be as besura as possible.

O mein naheen khedna Korea day naal, dil wich London da ubaal…
Iftikhar o Iftikhar aa kar mil mujhe zara…

I’m sure the last part where he turns, comes back and launches into the song again was improvised… what a brilliant, brilliant artist. and to think that we still have these amazing people around and yet they do almost no work on TV/film which is where they’re so desperately needed…

the video also has the beautiful Marina Khan going nuts laughing… so adorable… what a cutie…

Re: a beautiful blast from the past

priceless :omg:

Re: a beautiful blast from the past

oh man I actually kind of remember this one! I was sooo young :) thanks for the link to youtube! :)

Re: a beautiful blast from the past

what I also love about the clip is that the legendary Samiullah and one other player who I dont recognize is also in the video. Samiullah seems to be enjoying the jokes but the other player seems somewhat embarrassed... but Im sure they realized that it was all in good fun and it was only done because we love and respect our sportsmen/heroes...

but seriously, what a brilliant sketch by these guys... always been a huge fan of Khalid Nizami (especially for his Ankahi shenanigans) and Arshad Mehmood is a legend for so many things (Angan Terha and all his music)... but what about the comedic genius and timing of the great Khalid Abbas Daar... the man is a genius... I gotta find more of his TV stuff. the stage show stuff is not my cup of tea.

more info I found googling… Funniest Hockey Humor: Khalid Abbas Dar & Co. | ALL THINGS PAKISTAN : ALL THINGS PAKISTAN

Re: a beautiful blast from the past

This clip is from the PTV awards ceremony, 1986.

that other gentleman you mention is Hassan Sardar, the legendary center forward in the team that did the royal chitrol to all the world class teams in the late 70’s and early 80’s. That forward line consisted of, Sami, Haneef, Hassan, Manzoor, Kaleem.

And the reason for embarrassment is probably because just 2 years ago they had won a gold medal at the 1984 olympics, and then stood 11th out of 12 teams in the 1986 world cup (The performance that was made fun of in this program)

The 12th team was INDIA
:chai:

Re: a beautiful blast from the past

And the reason for their slump was the HUGE change in the hockey… i.e. the conversion of soil ground into an artificial turf… cuz europeans were continously being humiliated in the hands of sub-continent teams which they could not swallow and had to change it in their own favour :halo:

@topic: what a top class actors they were in that era!!! :k:

thanks for the detailed explanation, JB bhai… much appreciated.

but didn’t Samiullah retire in 83 or 84? I watched his interview awhile back and I thought he said he retired in 84.

Re: a beautiful blast from the past

aaah I remember in those days we used to plan WEEKS before the PTV awards. No shadi ...no function that day ..everyone used to be home on or before 7pm. Quality of those award shows was REALLY TOP CLASS. Even today Award shows (even Indian Award shows with all the flash) cant beat those shows!

Re: a beautiful blast from the past

^ very true. the scripts and presentation was phenomenal :k:
