I am not sure if its common amongst all Balochs or just in few tribes, but I experienced one when one of my Baloch friend got married.
Amongst the prosperous, elite families of that tribe, it was customary to wed one of your servants or less affluent person of your known circle when you are getting married. Same tent/hall, same day, same qazi, same dress, the poor family can invite their friends/family.
I attended my friend’s wedding where his driver got married the same day in the same crowd. What a humble and noble way of starting your life.
Please discuss if you know of any more such traditions that you observed or are part of your family.
In the Khans of Karachi, the men usually give their wives diamonds every year of marriage.
:@:
Niks, it was just a show off. Decent and humble people like myself ditched that materialistic tradition long time ago (almost 14 years ago)
classy........ Tlk bahi.. can you find the name of this tradition ?..
I would love to do this on my marriage !
I am sure there is a name to it but it happened long time ago in Karachi and I am not in touch with that friend anymore. Lets hope that one of the guppies can help us out here.
It's actually a tradition in memon families. Every occasion (like Eid, birthdays, etc) - wife gets a gift of gold or diamonds from the husband. At least in the families that can afford it, and from husbands who actually like their wives...
That's the only thing they will spend money on: God and diamonds, esp gold. They see it as an investment of their money.

yes we have that tradition too, only we call it obligation.
anyways, that was a lame humor of mine. But are you serious, that is a tradition? A nice one I must say.
No no no . . . we watch Zee TV and follow Indian traditions i.e. wasting money on mehndi , giving out huge jaheez , doing all those crappy rasmain on stage . Our forefathers never corrected us , then why should we .
In my mom's side of the family - for the gals you donate everything that the gal previously owned. Your clothes, your jewerly, electronics, furniture, etc - everything is handed off to the poor.
