Re: A 28 yr old called me an aunty
By the general principle, if you are married you are an aunty.
Re: A 28 yr old called me an aunty
njgal :) Aunty jee
SIGH.
there is a time in life when you have to HAVE TO stop lying to your self and accept it..
its may be very tough and brain may refuse to accept but be strong and tell your brain I AM AUNTY and you have to accept it..![]()
Re: A 28 yr old called me an aunty
I think if someone looks old maybe that’s why people call them uncle/ aunty?
I usually call people aunty if I can’t call them my baji because I always calculate their age with my mother’s lol ( sorry this will sound stupid but I actually do this
). For instance if someone is 34, I can’t call them baji because my mum’s not old enough to be their mum unless my mum got married at 14
Any 30 plus married woman, man is my uncle/ aunty
. I think people with children usually get referred as aunty, uncle a lot.
I know where you’re coming from maybe he got confused? It could be a slip of the tongue? Maybe he didn’t know what to say? He might’ve assumed that since you’ve kids you’re way older than him? It could’ve been anything.
Re: A 28 yr old called me an aunty
she can't be an aunty to everyone ?
I am sure most of us are aunts to someone but some random 28 year old guy calling her an aunty just doesn't sound right. 28 year old himself is old enough to be a parent he is no school going kido. Some one who is in 20's , 30's or 40's can not be an aunty to 28 year old lol ! There are other ways of showing respect too.
Re: A 28 yr old called me an aunty
njgal no offence please !!
was it coz he was a guy ![]()
when your waist circumfrance is more than 32 inches.
spot on! :D
dan 1 shuld be called an uncle rather dan an aunty ;)
Re: A 28 yr old called me an aunty
Up untill I turned about 20, I called all older women with children aunty, unless they were around my age. Now I usually don't call anyone aunty, unless they are my mother's age, or have kids my age.
I was recently introduced to one of my friends sister who moved here a few months ago. She jokingly mentioned that she was much older than us. I did not ask her age, nor was it something that was on my mind. I however would not consider her an aunty, because her sister is my age, and I definitely do not want to call her aunty and make her feel left out. So I respectfully call her baji.... actually I think I might have accidentally called her aunty. I immediately corrected myself, and I felt horrible even though she didn't seem offended.
IMO that title has a lot to do with your maturity level. If your married, have children, know how to run a household, you will be more likely to be called an aunty, but I'm sure all cases are different.
dan 1 shuld be called an uncle rather dan an aunty ;)
Who is dan 1?
hahaha, oh this brings memories....
okay when i first got married, my husbands younger cousin whose around 14 or so, calls him BHAI however he decides to call me AUNTY....excuse me....i didnt think it was funny, even though hubby did......
i also called someone aunty, she was same age as me, however she looked atleast 35.....not my fault if she looks older, she married someone older too.....
i know most people get offended, like i did....and honestly i think if the other person doesnt know your age, it depends how you look. the reason his cousin called me aunty, i think, was because he wasnt close enough to me, we didnt talk and they were all shy, to call me baji. thats what hubby said anyway, and my husband looks older than he is, hes 26, he looks 30...lol, so people assume as his wife i must be older too..
its all the way you look, my bhabi is younger than me, im 24, shes 21, however she looks around 28 29, so people call her aunty, she doesnt mind.....shes not fat, shes tall and broad,,,thats why, with me, when i was fatter, people called me aunty, because i was fat i used to wear loose clothes and buddey type kaprey to hide the flab lol...so i looked younger...and then i lost weight and hey presto......i look younger.....:]
Re: A 28 yr old called me an aunty
I'd take being called "uncle" than dying young any day. Not everyone is lucky to reach the age of being called uncle/aunty and that is why I like gray hair too. Whenever my wife asks me if I'll dye my hair when I have some gray ones I tell her "not everyone is lucky to reach to this age" :)
Re: A 28 yr old called me an aunty
A 3 year old called me an aunty once ![]()
Re: A 28 yr old called me an aunty
oh and this reminds me of incident at mall. when my (then) 33 years old doll was taking coin rides. An indian AUNTY came with her almost 3-4 years old kid and she was like "jaoo baita aap bhee DI-DI ki saath baith ker ride lai loo" man I died laughing :)
I now call my little one DIDI sometimes :D
No one has called me aunty. All my younger cousins just call me by my first name...they don't even call me "Baji". There's no formalities like that and I prefer it that way.
The only people who I would let call me aunty are my nephew and nieces, but I don't have any yet so it's all good :D
I'd call someone "aunty" if they were my mum's age or older.
I have to clarify that it wasn't a girl. It was guy and it was not meant to be cruel. I think he said it out of repect but I was taken bavk because I am only a few years older than him.
That was pretty dumb on his part, he you are just a few years apart he could have simply said Baji to show respect. I have some men/guys in my family/friends who are few years older than my mom but just to show respect they would call her Baji ...instead of just callin her by name....that i can understand...otherwise its just weird....
Re: A 28 yr old called me an aunty
^ i thought so too. i didn't say anything but I wonder whether I should have explained the concept to him for his own understanding
Re: A 28 yr old called me an aunty
i don't understand why people get so offended by this aunty thing. i had kids start calling me aunty the day i got nikahed...i didn't really mind. its so annoying to have to figure out everyone's age and make sure no one gets offended...
i'm pretty young to be married and having a kid already...but i understand that its my own decision and now people are gonna start expecting alot more maturity from me and most likely calling me aunty/baji. aunties will be my friends...i have to accept it and realize i made my choice so now i must live with the consequences without making life difficult for other innocent bystanders.
p.s. if a 28 yr old called me an aunty...i'd assume that he was trying extra hard to show respect and make sure i don't think that he's hitting on me or flirting for no reason. lol.

ahem… couldn’t help bring this up

Also, an older thread with some very “enlightening” perspectives on why a 25 year old girl refers to another 25 year old girl as an auntie :hehe: : http://www.paklinks.com/gs/all-views/243532-when-its-right-to-call-anyone-uncle-aunty.html
Re: A 28 yr old called me an aunty
I LOVE how "auntyhood" is sucha controversial and much-discussed topic in our culture :D ahahha
I think people started making it sound negative because...aunty really has no meaning. khala, mamu, baji all make sense. But, aunty??? what does it signify...? It's just a way to refer to every stranger your mother knows on the street:D
Also, I think all women go through a denial-phase and then acceptance : D (jk)
