a 1yr olds diet...

ive noticed my 1 yr old getting kamzoor, she doesnt eat the way she used to, shes eating ok, not underweight, but she just isnt gaining either. am i feeding her at wrong times or not giving enough milk. she sleeps from midnight, until 11am…i have started giving her milk in her slp now. but should i be giving more milk in her sleep, she then slps again around 3 til 5pm.

what are the right times to feed her, and what can i feed her. so many things in pak are not in season, im wary of the chicken and meat here, all pumped up chicken full of artificial stuff, its really hard chicken here, i can barely digest myself.

any ideas.

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

u sure ur in laws aren't feeding her stuff she shoudlnt be eating?

Re: a 1yr olds diet…

first of all, a one year old should not be getting milk in the middle of the night, it’s bad for her teeth, you’re going to open up a whole new set of problems there…second, i think you should reevaluate this sleep schedule, it could be a big reason why she looks kamzoor to you, her body is tired.. midnight bedtime?? seriously??? i know that here in the US, we view things a little differently, but a one year old should not be up that late and then sleep half the day, but that’s just my opinion…

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

stop blaming pakistan or your inlaws for all your problems .. hey u are in a land where there are the most fresh veggies that u can get, boil vegetables and mash them up and give it to her, u can give her baby creal, u can give her rice, roti, eggs, kheer, soji with no or less sugar ect...

and she is sleeping way to long almost 12 hours without food is too much for a baby.

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

No offense, but there is nothing wrong with Pakistani chickens...! and Pakistani produce as well.
Are you sure you are feeding her well...what is her sleep pattern during the day and how do you feed her..??..I mean how many times a day?
She needs to rely on solids now more than she needs milk.

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

Dude where do you think the super expensive and juicy fruits and Veggies that you see many UK Asian shops come from? Ready for a shock? Yeah from places like Pakistan and India. Now you should feel better because if these fruits and veggies are good enough to come to UK markets...they should be good be enough to go into your daughter's mouth.

You are living in a agricultural heaven for goodness sake....One of the most fertile soils in this world and you are talking about things being artificial?

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

maybe it differs from city to city, but I never found a difference in the meat when I went to Pak (Lahore), be it home cooked food or from restaurants/fast food places vs what I cook and eat here.

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

You can easily buy organic chicken and organic eggs in pakistan almost any where...especially in small towns.

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

give her bread eggs, soji, custurd, fruits veggies, chicken, roti, rice yogurt, whtever u r eating give her. N btw 1 yr old baby just gain 2 kgs in his or her 2nd yr of life.

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

How much milk are you giving her? Perhaps it's too much, and that's why she's not eating properly.

1yo can have about 5 meals/snacks a day. I think milk at this age is about 2-3 cups (16-24oz) or less.

What kind of food are you giving? Do you make it separately for her, or is it what you guys eat? Maybe it's too spicy, too bland? Mine is a fan of freshly made desi food. She likes other stuff too, but bland food made especially for babies never goes over well with her.

I try to give a grain, a protein, and a fruit/veggie with every major meal. And then usually fruit or Cheerios or some such thing as a snack.

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

I know lots of babies that sleep that long overnight. They aren't underweight. My daughter sleeps almost that long -- 11 hours without food.

Nadz, I WOULD NEVER wake her if she's sleeping, unless she's sick or something and needs fluids or something.

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

Also, Nadz, at 1yo the growth slows down. They don't gain as quickly as they did in their first year. Mine started crawling late and walking even later, so when it all started it seemed like she wasn't gaining any weight at all, but she was eating and stuff fine. Then around 18 months I think her growth started again, mashAllah se.

Keep encouraging her to eat and try new foods. Mine gets bored easily. I don't have a standard meal for her, cuz the key with her is variety. She eats fresh foods more happily, mashAllah.

eggs, cheeses, yogurt, bananas are good filling and healthy foods also.

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

With the grace of Allah eating from Pakistan's produce only my low birth weight daughter went on to normal healthy weight within 6 months of her birth and even now alhamdoilillah she is healthy & her weight is fine (Masha Allah) she eats locally produced rice , roti from Pakistani wheat , chicken , veges & fruits.

I think you need to check your self first ....why does she go to sleep in the middle of the night ? shouldn't she be sleeping at a proper time before 11 or 10 pm ? you will have to try out different foods on her and see what she likes .........spend time on her rather than spending time on degrading Pakistan and Pakistanis.

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

Nadz, I do agree that you should try to transition her to an earlier bedtime. I know that you are not in your own home, but as her mother you need to do your best to set a stable routine for her. This routine will be a lifesaver once your second baby arrives.

Our bedtime routine is the following: Hubby and I give Bunny a bath around 8:30 and then hubby puts her to sleep. And she's asleep by 9. She wakes up around 7:45-8:15. This has been my daughter's routine for a LONG time now.

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

i think you are right about 11 hours without food is alright but only for a small baby of one year to be sleeping that long, u really have to feed them with rich fulling food before going to bed so that their tiny stomachs are full and they dont get hungry at night... like I used to take yakhni .. shred the chicken and add the flavourless baby whole grain baby cereal, make a paste and feed that to the baby and a glass of milk and she would be full for the whole night.

Nadz Night time bottle is a nono if you dont want the kid to lose those delicate teeths .. its not recommended.

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

if you dont like the chicken try the one from K&N's.im sure youve seen their commercials on tv all the time...they hve whole chicken as well as a whole line of chicken products im sure your daughter will love. i feed it to my little one as well

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

@ Sahar: at what age ur daughter started crawling n walking?
/ missey: how old is ur baby n other thn KNN's nuggets what else frm their products u give 2 ur baby??

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

^ I think she was like 11 months before she started crawling, but she didn't do it much, and when she did it was a weird 1-leg crawl/scoot combo. at 15 months she was still holding our hands to walk, but she was walking independently soon after that.

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

At that age my daughter had a bottle at 5pm, dinner and fruit around 7 pm, another bottle around 8:30/9 and then slept after a bath.

I have friends/family who give their kids dinner by 6:30 and the kid is asleep by 7:30 until morning!

Re: a 1yr olds diet...

My daughter sleeps 10 hours or more at a stretch,at night.
She used to sleep through the night when she was just 6 months old.Her pediatrician suggested I do not wake her up if she is sleeping through the night.
Her sleeping through the night does not seem to be an issue. Her timings are a bit odd,if you can try to fix those. She is sleeping way too late and waking up at lunch time rather than for breakfast.
Another thing you can do is stop feeding her during her sleep. This way she is not hungry enough to wake up early in the morning.Once she starts waking up in the morning it will get easy for you to give her breakfast, lunch and dinner with a snack or two at proper timings.
