Those were the days when competent urdu writers not part-time-writers-cum-profit-seekers used to write dramas. Urdu is a very expressive langage and it was used beautfilly by writers like haseena moin, amjad islam amjad, ashfaq ahmed, bano qudsia and others. But today writers hvae failed to capture the aesthetics of the langugae due to having a very poor command over urdu. I cringe wehn I hear urdu being mixed with english mixed with some xyz language in dramas. either they should make plays in urdu or english but you can't write half the play in english and call it an urdu play.
Point taken---magarr uss (acchay) zamane mein there was no commercialism of the extent we have now or since a decade!
Rahat Kazmi once said..in a show.."Abb Humein Biscuit Bechne Walon Ka Sahara Le Na Hoga...Tubb Hum Survive Kar Sakeinge!"
I saw "SEAGULL" at the Arts Council stage this evening directed by Zia Moheyuddin with Rahat, Talat, Arshad Mahmood etc in cast. Though it was the adaptation from CHEKOV's play...yet it reminded me of our good old days of PTV (sixties and seventies) and the perfection due to rehearsals and other befitting technicalities! Zia Bhai at NAPA is doing all that as also Rahat told me that they have been rehearsing for whole ramadan!
Poor fellows--I just saw one banner---as an advert at the box office area--:)
Not 55 adverts after every scene to make money and care two hoots about the viewers!
Its a sad tale and situation and we can write books lamenting on it but as I see...there is hardly any likelihood that things will improve aur jaisa lutrum puttrum chall raha hai...chalta rahe ga.
My facebook friend Samira Fazal of NURPUR KI RANI also lamented like me...but I see some sparks and hope on what she is trying to write---that things may improve..but on a very slow note!
Over to those who wish to write books--here on Lilly's page.

-Raju Uncle
uncle i feel like that things about about to get back on track. just few years ago when we used to have those crappy indian style soap, everyone complained about them, and now we hardly have anymore of those.
good writers are coming back, i think hum tv did an amazing job by bring some serious writers from khawateen digest and other places, and now our dramas are getting close to the old style ptv dramas. there are still some bad writers and crappy dramas but then we have a choice to not watch them.
ab her cheez pehlay ki tarhan achi nahi hai, magar still i think it's better then few years ago when there were just cappy stuff on tv.
aaj kal dour is not the best but i think we have passed the worse.
Sorry my ignorance--but BY GOD---I heard this name from you---for the first ever time in my 44 years of PTV (shauqiya) career! unless his TV name was else?
We just have to quit making Indian Soaps our source of inspiration, and get back to our roots. We need to do away with the mushy mushy serials infused with 2-3 Indian songs and dances.
Re: 90s Eid Days & PTV transmission :) Miss those days..
yeah i remember all the ads from milan soap, lado soap, guy soap, dettol, rose petal, bata shoes, service shoes, disprin to naz pan masala and many more (u can see loads on youtube)
90z eid transmission was totally different from todays and unique...subah ke waqt mushaira hota tha (i used to hate it) then koi eid milan type wala show aur dopahar ke waqt ek pakistani film must hoti thi (errrrr decent ones or censored ones...like i remember seeing qaatil ki talaash, mushkil, jeeva on eid days)...
and in between they used to play the ads..i remember the bata ad where its song was a copy of aqua's barbie girl...it used go something like hum bhi bata ke sung, haan bata haan bata...bata shoes banaae walon ki janab se ehle watan ko eid mubarak.
**As I know of---Talat Siddiqui Saheba...was not a TV Artiste of yesteryears who has appeared in early days plays frequently. She is primarily known for her outstanding performance as a RADIO PAKISTAN artiste with a magic voice that people simply went crazy on its melodious touch--the gift of God she has. **
Talat Siddiqui was ever popular in Radio Pakistan-Karachi weekly program "SALMA BAAJI" sponsored by DALDA every Sunday afternoon at 1 pm. Others in cast were ; Talat Hussain, Rehana Siddiqui and Santosh Russell.
Talat Siddiqui indeed, always played a beautiful mom, wife and a sober women in few of the Pakistani movies--ever popular being Himayat Ali Shayar's "LORI" with Rufi as her son...and Santosh as her husband. Go to youtube and search for her ever hit song "CHANDA KE HINDOLAY MEIN...." and see how charmingly she acted.
I cant remember her PTV play which was popular.
Yes indeed--her sister REHANA SIDDIQUI was (and still is) a very popular TV artiste of PTV from yesteryears...and so is her daughter ARIFA who herself is a hugely talented person that I know of...though i have never worked with her.....
Thanks Uncle Arjay, Long time i did not see Talat Siddiqi on TV or Film. Is she alive?
I had a telephonic conversation with her..a short one....some months or a year back...Masha'Allah she sounded hale and hearty and thereafer..being a regular newspaper reader and with all the media coverage on even a celebrity commodity in trouble...having not seen anything otherwise...I have cogent reasons to believe that she is as happy as a lark with her family in Lahore!
Waise aap ke iss sawal ne hamare dimagh mein kuch sawalaat ki chain daal di hai??? aur kuch aisa lagta hai ke aap Mrs.Siddiqui ko jaante hein:)

When Syed Atif Hussain was directing PHIRR KHO JAIEYEN NA it was astonishing to see the new hero!! and upon my highly curious inquiry from Abid Ali, it transpired that the hero is the financer of the serial....
