9 month old wakes up at 4 am and starts playing !

ok I am struggling with a bit of an issue here .. his last nap at daytime is around 3pm -4pm after which I dont let him fall asleep until 8 or if i can stretch it , to 9 pm ..

he used to sleep until 7 in the morning with few wake ups in the night but give him his bottle and he would go right back to sleep again with no fuss . but recently he’s been giving us a serious headache , wakes up at odd hour and refuses to go back to sleep , plays for a good 2 hours and then slowly dozes off .. before it becomes a habit , I want to know how i can tackle this . This is what i have done so far:

any other recomendations are welcome , so far both husband and I ignore him when he wakes up, he tries his best to wake us up but we resist.
I have tried to make the room dark by switching off the lamp , but he keeps staring in the dark ! also tried to put him to bed forcefully he just wont give in .. he doesnt want his feed or a nappy change at that time , just wants to play !

help pls .. right when i thought this would get easier , bam !

Re: 9 month old wakes up at 4 am and starts playing !

Is he learning how to stand or walk? That milestone messes every baby up around that age… Sleeping is boring

Just keep putting him down… If he sleeps seperately…leave him be. Make sure his diaper is changed and he is fed… And just leave him. Its a phase…sometimes it stays …sometimes it goes away.

Re: 9 month old wakes up at 4 am and starts playing !

yeah he tries to escape via crawling + walking ! I dunno what it is , he tries to get off his cot and over our bed and then heads straight towards the bed’s edge to try and get down on his own !

Re: 9 month old wakes up at 4 am and starts playing !

Maybe it’s time he slept in his own crib? The fewer people around him, the less inclined he may be to go exploring? He might also be waking up because there isn’t enough room for him to stretch out on the bed. Three in a bed is pretty tight. But most likely, as Khawa said, it’s a growth spurt. He should settle back down in a couple of weeks.

i have no advice to give.. but aaaww that sounds so cute!

Re: 9 month old wakes up at 4 am and starts playing !

My daughter did that, she woke up multiple times a night and played and did that till 16 months. I sleep trained her and she was sleeping within a week through the night. They need their sleep which is essential for growth too. My daughter was in her own room in a crib with a baby minitor in our room. Offer the baby a sippy cup if he wakes up, he shouldn’t be hungry in the middle of the night any more.

:smack2: First of all, I assume, you must be awake at the moment coz its 4 right now :hehe:
Well, I must agree with other on this, its the phase. It will pass by. I remember how I used to separate my room during my sister’s stay over!! just because her baby used to wake up and wake others up lol :hehe:

Turning off lights is the best solution. Also, is he addicted to lullabies? If no, try to sing him some… this helps too… a swinging crib is another solution :@:

Re: 9 month old wakes up at 4 am and starts playing !

hmm thanks guys .. i think its teething as well .. just spotted a white thing coming out of his gum , i reckon thats a tooth thats finally showing up !! for the moment i will blame that for messing up his sleep schedule

Re: 9 month old wakes up at 4 am and starts playing !

cuteeeeeeeeeeeeee… babies look so cute with growing teeth…

Re: 9 month old wakes up at 4 am and starts playing !

awwww…mine does it too…he starts talking…and playing with his bunny for a bit…then goes to sleep…if he starts crying then I take him to bed with me and cuddle with him till he falls back asleep.

Re: 9 month old wakes up at 4 am and starts playing !

He seems to be getting back his sleep now , i think its teething pains that wake him up. he gets up , hugs me tight, I snuggle him into the warm quilt and he falls back to sleep again  I am gonna miss his tiny hugs when he grows up :frowning:
