I need help with my 9 month old. He only takes 3 half hour naps during the day. He is breastfed with solids (twice a day). He gets up every two hours during the night to feed. and it is tiring me out. Please share some advice or tips to make it easy on him and me. I have a toddler too and I need all the energy plus I NEED my SLEEP…
Second, he cries non stop during the night, I think it might be that he has gas and feeling constipated. His stomach is pretty hard as well. Lately I’ve been feeding him boiled potatoes+ carrots and other times feeding him bananas.
I would appreciate some ideas on filling foods that are easy to make and store. I don’t like store bought stuff coz it has caused him allergies in the past. Pls help.
My son (almost 8 months) doesn’t takes too many or long naps either, however he does sleep through the night…wakes up only once for milk. I would suggest that you should try giving him formula before bed. It is heavier and will help him sleep better.
i feed him veggies, lentils, meat (chicken or lamb) (in different combinations) twice a day. I also feed him egg yolk but I am not very consistent with it,
Most of the times he can eat what we cook. I also keep veggies boiled on hand, mix them up with whatever we are eating.
Wendy what all is included in fibre. My first born used to get cereal with breastmilk but this one I don’t have tome to.express and he doesn’t take any bottle.
Lusi right now I’m only doing potatoes and carrots I will add some of the other veggies too.
cut out the bananas right away…especially not after the morning hours.
increase fibre in his diet…does he like applesauce?
restrict his napping to once per morning and then once per early afternoon.
schedule play time and massage for early evening then give him a nice warm bath and finally feed him before putting him down to sleep. (he should consume more than normal if all goes well)
Also, what if you try giving a pacifier or water instead milk when he cries at night. It might be time to start weaning him off expecting milk at night.
Does he sleep with you? Often they can sense the milk if they are in the same bed/room and ask for it.
rice and bananas cause constipation, give him oats n pear, at 9months I used to feed my baby 3 times a day n in dinner serve oats they keep baby full, follow the routine same time every night, dinner , bath n sleep give him bottle, I used to add 2 teaspoons of cereal in her bottle, but till one year she took her bottle once in a night. make sure he is not sleeping much in day time in evening make him busy wth some activity, he will get tired. let him play in bath tub wth his toys, he will get tired n sleep well inshahallah
At 9 months.he should.be eating 3 times a day and almost everything… His diet looks.like that of a 6 month.old
Everyone else has given good advise.for the constipation. Whatever u make.for meem… Feed that to the baby too. Justboil the pasta a bit longer…or the carrots.. etc… Other than thatp… Increase his food list… Give him.oatmeal.closer.to bedtime. And then the breast when he is ready to crash.
He is not getting enough solids to sleep through the night. No wonder u r so exhausted.
with my son, unless we mashed the banana really well, he would get constipated. Since he liked eating banana, we used to mash the heck out of it!!
Introduce veggies to him now!
for night time sleep.. did you change anything around him? Does he have a blankie or a toy that he loves? mine didnt sleep through the night until he was about 15 months.. he used to wake up once for feed until he was a year old… then we went on a vacation that ruined his routine and he was waking up every few hours.. it took me almost 3 weeks to get him back in routine.. once you have resolved the constipation issue, then go for sleep training!
When we switched our son to whole milk, he used to get constipated.. then we boiled his milk with fennel seeds and added a drop of almond oil in his milk bottle every feed! It definitely helped him with the switch!
I miss my folks they used to feed my older one everything.
I’m the only parent at the moment and he sleeps in a crib with wall down attached to.the bed so yeah he smells me.
Khawa , older one eats exactly what we eat.
I just didn’t know how much to feed this one.
^ prepare a little bit more than you think he’ll eat each time. and gauge the next feeding by what he does at the previous one. lunch time tends to be better than dinner for a lot of kids. and he should have three meals a day. offer milk first, then a meal a little later. then milk again before nap/bedtime. does he try to pick things up himself?
My son ( 8 months now) will eat almost 1/4-1/2 cup of whatever I give him. He is definitely enjoying texture, flavors, and variety. I don’t add red chilli to our food and keep the salt light as well.
auto… wahtever u cook… rinse it a bit.. and give him that… he can eat everything you are eating now. i didnt cook seperately for the babies if what we were having was edible for them… like say i cooked potoato meat. course its too spicey for the baby… so i would take a pce of meat and a potato.. and just quickly rinse it.. dont bathe it in water.. just rinse. she loved it. same with midget. as for how much… yaar.. keep feeding until the kid says enough. once the main meal is done.. offer fruit pcs. kids often get bored with food and then want something else. that is the time to offer boiled pcs of veggies or fruits. im sorry im writing in a huge paragraph.. for some odd reason the enter key wont work on gupshup!!! insane.
How often are you nursing him? My daughter wasn’t interested in solids too much until I weaned her off at 14 months! Some babies just prefer nursing to solids. He’s still under one so I won’t worry too much about solids. Just keep giving him different things and see what he likes. Oatmeal, avocado, pulao, khichri etc. are all very fulfilling. But keep in mind if you are constantly nursing him through the night, he’s most likely not getting up out of hunger. It’s most likely to seek comfort. So I would definitely try to night wean him first. He’ll gradually start eating more solids once you night wean him.
