How many of you think that 911 was the best thing that happened for the individual parties within the MMA, most notably the JUI and the Jamaat? I mean without the anti-amreekan vote, these parties hardly managed 2-3 seats in parliament…

Well good for the MMA to an extent, the main benficiaries of 9/11, were Mush and the MMA, and they have aided each other in the process. The MMA would not have been able to organise for the 2002 election if it hadn’t been for Musharrafs going easy on the degree issue and the release of key MMA leaders (jui-F)who were arrested for corruption.
If you speak to PML-Q leaders in NWFP as I have, you’ll find they are quite disgusted with how much help the MMA has gotten from Musharraf, even at the expense of his “own” party. Similarly Sherpao’s Patriot party won seats in alliance with the MMA. This double dealing has extended to Waziristan, where after a military debacle on the scale of Kargil happened, Mush made the recent deal for a ceasefire and it was clinched with the help of Fazlur Rehman, lets not forget Karachi where back in the 2001 local elections Musharraf gave Karachi to the JI in return for it’s support in some Kashmir intiatives. So just to put the good old times of 9/11 in perspective

mma nver had a mandate from people. they are only coasting on knee jerk reation support of people due to the backlash of war on terror stuff. They have also served their role as another entity in the mix of a dynamic political alliances landscape and have been played brilliantly for the most part.

I dont get it, where did molvis come into the picture? Sorry to say but you bring in something out of nowhere in every thread, and for some reason drag religion too! or maybe you should explain how your post relates to the topic abou the MMA getting support from the people because of post 911 events.

I dont agree, had there been no 911, MMA with all its parties would have managed what, 3-4 seats in total, going by their past records. However, in 2002 they did pretty good, managed to get the people to vote for them instead of the ANP, which always enjoyed victory there.
