Well, if you have a TV tuner card, you can record the movie to your PC and then burn it on DVD, else there are many shops where you convert your tapes to DVD or whatever.
Last resort could be that send me your tape and I will transfer it on DVD and send it back to you, you pay for the shipping and DVD.

Go buy a VCR + DVD recorder, record your movies and then return it.
