First it was the Brits who were watching their backs from Americans on the battlefield, now Iraqi police need to watch their backs from these Gomer Pyles.
Eight Fallujah policemen and a Jordanian security guard were killed and nine other people were wounded early Friday, an Iraqi doctor said. Injured Iraqi police said an American patrol opened fire on the police — in an apparent friendly fire incident — as they chased a highway bandit.

Worst part is that these Gomer Pyles are probably laughing at the incident right now over a beer.

Which is a funnier moniker: "Gomer Pyles" or "Ragheads"?
I think they're roughly equivolent.
A sad event. God bless the ones who died giving their country a new life.
For those who say it was deliberately done...why only 8? Americans could have lined up all 200 hundred of them and shot...or Americans don't have weapons do so?

With the thousands of deaths of Iraqi soldiers/conscripts, then protestors (most of whom tend to be male), and now police officers, if this rate keeps up, Iraq will have one of the highest numbers of widows.

I think this is not even remotely compared to the casualties of Iran-Iraq war. and not forgetting the 10s of 1000s of Shias killed by Saddam.

The difference is, the US troops gunned down these poor men for trying to do nothing other than what the USA told these men to do... catching criminals.
If the US troops lack the training, discipline and skill to fulfil their role, they should not be in Iraq! I mean, for God's sake, these guys opened fire in the direction of a hospital despite not even coming under attack themselves!!!!!!
A mob of trigger happy oafs should not be allowed to prance around Iraq carrying guns.
Iraqi policemen who survived recounted from their hospital beds Saturday how they begged the American soldiers to stop shooting, screaming in Arabic and English that they were police. The Americans kept firing volley after volley, they said. The fusillade raged for a half hour as more men died and others groaned in pain from their wounds, they said.
