Suicide Bombings across Pakistan......
...or is it across Punjab and NWFP?
While this may raise a few eyebrows on this forum, one cannot help notice the fact that for the past so many months, we have seen one suicide bomb after another in cities like Lahore, Pindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Swat etc.......but none in Karachi....none in Sindh. Is the security really that 'good' in Karachi? Or does this have another meaning?
Of the theories that have floated regarding Karachi being spared the latest spate of suicide bombs...
1. Taliban seniors are based in Karachi, and they dont want to bomb their 'own' city.
2. The ruling parties (PPP and MQM), both with a questionable track record, are orchestrating this, in order to destabilize Punjab, and wrest it away from PML-N.
The nature of suicide attacks has been varying as well. Most of the taliban attacks that we have seen have been made against military gatherings, whether its a convoy, a brigadier's car, GHQ, army mosque or Ordnance Factory. Most of the suicide attacks against civilian targets, like the market blasts in Peshawar that killed more than 100 2 weeks ago, are followed by taliban denials.
While nothing is set in stone, fact is, the series of bombings in Punjab is fairly questionable, and has some heavy internal involvement. Not everything can be attributed to the taliban/alqaida/india. Even if these elements are externally responsible, fact is, someone on the inside has a huge interest in destabilizing Punjab.
I am pretty sure our intelligence agencies are fully aware of this. Question is, why arent they taking any definitive action? My guess is, that any definitive action will probably result in the toppling of the federal government, and put the military in a bad spot. And this military top brass doesnt seem to be interested in running the country, which is a good thing. But at the same time, can they afford to sit and watch all this carnage taking place every day?
