78th Academy awards

Re: 78th Academy awards

Crash was a dark horse but I always thought it will get it. Good game!

Reese witherspoon  She had no seriuos competition to be honest neither did Rachel Weisz. I am glad both dolls won their statues. Clooney was another quite predictable winner. Syriana is a great movie no doubt

but the main surprise was Phillip Seymour winning against Heath Ledger. I really am quite stumped at that. He was brilliant in capote but Heath was so complete and looked thorougly real in his portrayal.

Re: 78th Academy awards

Didnt care much for the faggot romance of Brokeback Mountain, but happy to see Crash win the best picture. This movie was different with a hidden message in it depicting the racial divide in an LA.

Clooney and Weisz for supporting actor and actress were well deserving. I saw North Country just yesterday on DVD and I really liked Charlize Theron's acting (she looked hot as usuall as well). I would have rather seen her win the best actress oscar. I recommend this movie to those that havent seen it.

Oh and Jon Stewart did a pretty decent job. Not the best host but certainly better than many in the past.

For those of you who are keeping score at home, I just want to make something very clear: Martin Scorsese, zero Oscars; Three 6 Mafia, one."
*β€” Jon Stewart

(*best song went to"It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" from "Hustle & Flow by the rap group Three 6 Mafia)

Re: 78th Academy awards

Re: 78th Academy awards

nicole kidman looked like she got ten yrs younger!!!
im not a fan of reese witherspoon...and the crying part in her speech seemed forced...
charlize theron didnt look too good. and whats with the blondes in pale dresses? they look washed out...j'lo looked fab and keira knightley looked great too. but my absolute fav was the lady from memoirs of geisha that came to present the nominees in a black dress. she looked beautiful.
Im happy crash won.

Re: 78th Academy awards

i loved jessica alba and salma hayek's dresses :)

btw...Sandra Bullock looked washed out..her hair and make up were just horrid...she looked like she hadn't slept in days...

Re: 78th Academy awards

The only reason I recorded and (partially) watched the Academy Awards was because of Jon Stewart. Little known out side US, may be, but the guy is pure genius when it comes to political humor (I religiously record and watch The Daily Show). Despite a slow start (a few jokes fell off flat) I think Stewart was very dignified and occasionally very funny last night. Hosting Oscars is generally a very difficult job, as Hollywood is famous for its huge egos and generally self-appreciating and pat-me-on-my-back-because-I-am-so-good tone of the Awards. Plus, its not a place for political jokes either.

Re: awards, I don't care one way or the other about any of the Best Picture nominees. So Crash winning or Brokeback losing is meaningless for me. I find Academy's taste in movies is completely alien to mine, in any event. Reese and Rachel winning was nice, and so was Clooney (what can I say, I like the guy).

Dresses were the usual fare, and I think Stewart did make a joke about actresses unable to afford a gown that can cover their breasts properly. The only dress that looked quite odd to me was Charlize's with the huge bow on the left shoulder. Selma Hayek's dress looked off-balance. Gents, mostly played it very safe. I didn't like a few hair-styles.. Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock and Jessica Alba, to name a few. All of them seemed like they got out of the bed, and came to the show. I am sure they paid a few grands to get that hair-do.

All in all, the usual boring affair, with boring self-indulgent speeches, unheard-of movies and boring songs. Rightly the ratings knocked off another 10 points.
