Before you go around and start calling others ignorant let me first shed some light on you…so that you know where you stand.
Now since you have mentioned Quran, iam solely going to use Quranic verses to proove you wrong.
Surah Al-Qayamah:
**75:3Does man think that We cannot assemble his bones? ** 75:4Nay, We are able to put together in perfect order the very tips of his fingers
So there you go. Proof that our existance **will be **physical. We will be resurrected. We have our bodies, and body parts all intact. And we will be able to have all the physical pleasures of foods and drinks and everything else that is in the heavens, and the physical pain if we’r in Hell.
If we use your logic, that we wont have a physical existance and we wont be able to expirence the physical pleasures, than all the material things that the Quran describes, which will be present in the next life, would become pointless. Nooo…the existance will very much be physical, and we will have our bodies intact.
Other rewards mentioned are steams of milk, many fruits and gardens have been mentioned. I know many people who do not even like milk. How would it be heaven for them? Many Muslims today stand accused of taking these things too literally, I blame mullah for that.
Carnal pleasures are mentioned since the types of rewards we will be given in the here after (InshaAllah) are beyond our comprehension. Holy Quran says that we can not comprehend heaven or hell, or our form in the here after. A thing that “no eye” has ever seen, “no ear” has ever heard of, how can we imagine that thing? Our existence is limited to five senses, beyond that we can not conceive anything.
Let me ask you another question: If one is in heavens, but one’s parents/siblings/loved ones are in hell, how will he/she be happy in heavens knowing that his/her loved ones are burning in hell? How will it be heavens for him/her?
The Quran talks in many a places, about how Jannah would be like. We have been given a vague picture of Jannah. What makes u think "no ear has ever heard of Jannah".
As far as your questions concerned:
On that day, the Day of Qayamah. The intensity would be sooo much, the azaab would be so much, that the mom would run from her child, and the children from her parents and the husband from her spouse and vice versa. On that day...it will be every man for himself.
I think those Ayaahs pretty much summed up the scene. Even in Jannah, it will be a gift sooo great, and mind you, it wont only be physical pleasures...there will be spiritual pleasures too, for example...being able to see Allah (swt) and stuff and the bounties would be soo great you wont miss anything.
the numbers, in my view, r only given so the human brain, with its limitations can grasp the idea....
we can't understand infinite, and to understand a finite, we have to have a certain number....
and the hadith says 72, so lets be happy with 72....
those who die for Allah get Allah's blessings....
those who die for the virgins, i doubt they will get anything....
those who come under pressure and reject the ahadith of the Prophet (saw) also shud fear the wrath of Allah....
they shud fear Allah more than the worldly powers....
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Allah, the Exalted, has said: `I have prepared for my righteous slaves what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and the mind of no man has conceived.’ If you wish, recite:
`No person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do.‘’’ (32:17)
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
muslims have no probelms with accepting these two in the literal sense…
yes, ahmedis do tend to call Muhammad (saw) a liar when they say that when he was wrong about the issue of Jesus (as) and mirza ghulam ahmed (may Allah burn him in hell for misguiding muslims) was right about the issue…
The word *hoor *is actually the plural of *ahwar *(applicable to man) and of haura (applicable to woman) and signifies a person having eyes characterized by hauar a special quality bestowed upon a good soul, male or female in paradise and it denotes the intense whiteness of the white part of the spiritual eye.
The Qur’an describes in several other verses that in paradise you will have azwaj which mean a pair or spouse or companion which means you will have spouses or companions pure and holy (mutaharratun means pure, holy).
“But give glad tidings to those who believe and work righteousness, that their portion is gardens, beneath which rivers flow. Every time they are fed with fruits therefrom, they say: “Why, this is what we were fed with before”, for they are given things in similitude; and they have therein companions pure (and holy); and they abide therein (forever)”.
[Al-Qur’an 2:25]
“But those who believe and do deeds of righteousness, We shall soon admit to Gardens, with rivers flowing beneath – their eternal home; therein shall they have companions pure and holy: we shall admit them to shades, cool and ever deepening”. [Al-Qur’an 4:57]
Therefore the word hoor has no specific gender. Mohammad Asad has translated the word hoor as spouse and Abdullah Yusuf Ali as companion. Therefore according to some scholars a man in paradise will have a *hoor *that is a beautiful maiden with beautiful big and lustrous eyes and a woman in paradise will get a man with beautiful big and lustrous eyes.

ofcourse we all know that such replies r only apologetic and scholarly discussions to debate those who question what women will get if men will get the hoors....
if u wish, let us have a new thread and i will put forth my viewpoint (as i gather from the Quran) that hoor applies only to women....
Apologetic?? What do we have to be apologetic about?? Are we trying to bend the truth here, truth that Allah sent down, so that lesser mortals can find "our modified version of Islam" more acceptable?
Iam not trying to defend any claim or point of view over here, just putting forward what i read from a renowned scholar's website, but to be apologetic about anything concerning Islam...thats just a disgrace.
Only the dead have seen the virgins. I dont know any dead person that came back and validated the number. Who cares about the number.
Allah (swt) said, be good, do good, and live a modest life. Allah loves modesty. Having 72 virgins is not a modest number.
Just my opinion, I am not a scholar on religion.
As concluded before, Number is not mentioned in quran, but in hadeeth and that too to comprehend the infinite. It may be a metaphorical calculation for our brains. Nonetheless, Hadeeth is to be taken literally many a times as it was conversation of Rasool:saw: to his companions(RAA) among those many were il-literate on the worldly level.
Existance of hoor is mentioned in quran, you can take the meaning as according to your/scholars’ understanding of hadeeth.
PCG, according to your theory, (since the 72 number is bad pr, and that its being denied cuz of this), then shouldn't we also be denying any other pleasures in jannah too? The pleasure of Allah, complete rest, the company of prohpet's and righteous.. etc etc etc?? I think you have more of a problem with the 72 hoor idea rather than the negative pr which it might be generating.
**Re: * What Jannah will be like*. Then I believe it is completely idiotic to say it will be a certain way or the other. Allah subhanahu wa Ta'ala has told us about it in terms we can best understand in terms of this life (food.. companionship.. etc), and this is how it should be accepted, knowing that Allah subhanahu wa Ta'ala will grant us with whatever he wills.
if 72 is such a bad PR problem chalo, let's compromise and settle on 36 ... if even that's too many, ok make it 18....if you cut it anymore it becomes ODD! and keep it even and straight.
