7 months pregnant coming to uk for delivery

Re: 7 months pregnant coming to uk for delivery

yes she is register with a gp.if you read my post carefully then you would have understood that iam talking about a girl who only recently moved to pakistan post her marriage. her move was in march. and again if you read my posts then you would be aware that she has been working too. she has paid for 5/6 years of income tax i believe so she is in every way entitled to use public fund and govt services like nhs . her parents paid tax for the past 18 years too. not only british born pay tax my dear. settled inhabitants contribute as much as the born local.

money is obviously not her issue if sge can pay for a ticket to come just for delivery. it would cost same or less in pakistan. but question is about using her rights as a foreigner/ europeean settled in the uk since her school days.

i will get her to check withher surgery.
i hadnt been to see my gp for 3 years despite living in london since i was fine. when i went for an appt, i wasnt de registered and neither i was asked where i was.

Re: 7 months pregnant coming to uk for delivery

I think she will be fine. If she is worried about her GP refusing her, she can always give him a call and let him know she is pregnant and will be back for delivery so that she can get relevant documents ready no? I believe that's pretty common in Scandinavia from what I hear at least.

No i have read your posts and I am going by what I have experienced! I was 14 ans went to pakistan for 3 months and told my gp as i needed my inhalers and inwas removed off their books as alot of practices do excercise the right to remove you if you have been abroad for 6 weeks or more. Telling them you are going and not telling them is two different things!

Secondly if she wants to excercise her rights to give birth by all means do so but you clearly stated in your post she wants to stay her give birth get her babies passport and go back. so that to me is health tourism. Whether you are a brit or not. cant have one rule for one and one for another.

If shes not willing to come before 7 months thats her choice. However it may be more beneficial for her to be here earlier. Also privatley it costs around £2500 for a natural birth plus costs to stay lver night. C sections cost £3500+ costs to stay over night. So she should keep that in mind also when looking for private to give birth.

Tbh the topix is pointless if you have already said u havent see your GP in 3 years so they wont remove you etc and then you must have an idea that they willnot refuse care either. The UK doesnt ask for proof of insurance etc as it provides free healthcare to its citizens and free emergency care at A&E for everyone.

If this is about her getting her child a passport look on the home office website and see what her rights are. If you say she is a brit national then dont see the problem in that. It just all seems very blasè swanning in last minute and expecting a bed booked. If she wants the baby here she should come and have her care start to finjsh instead of wasting money in pak in between. Doesnt make sense. Cant have the best of both worlds.

Re: 7 months pregnant coming to uk for delivery

first of all this topic was not about issues/ advices on getting a brit passport for ger child. you and few other posters decided to be judgmental and brought up the subject of the child passport. like i said before, the passport is the least of my czn worries asshe has done enough researches to be confident about the citizenhip for her child. secondly i did say she will eventually come back to uk.

thirdly, how she spend her money and her time is her personal matter
maybe she has enough to waste. british people go abroad espc usa for operations as they feep the care would be better abroad so why not returning to your country just for a child birth.

and as far the registration is concerned, i just shared my own experience in my own area. she is from a different area and registered with a different surgery and rules might be different.

i am sorry but none of your posts have been on the actual topic but you have only shown you prejuges which were not needed. this was not an immigration question

all i wanted was advice on how to cope with nhs/ gp when coming late.

Re: 7 months pregnant coming to uk for delivery

calling the gp sounds like a good idea. will tell her that

I gave my opinion based on what YOU have posted. Like i said to you before if you bother reading my post. That if she leaves it till 7 months she is cutting it fine but the way the UK works she clearly WONT be refused care. Her choice to stroll in late in her pregnancy but this is something i feel strongly about its this air of ignorance that you keep bringing up by stating "excerising her rights" then by all means do so but considering going private also means your cousin clearly has money to spend and while yes it is her choice to do so how she pleases then why not invest in decent private healthcare where you are.

Oh and about people travelling fromthe UK abroad im sure you will agre thar while health care is FREE it isnr necessarily the best when it comes ro peoples needs they have. Also many maternity hospitals have plenty of horror stories also. If you feel i am being judgemental thats your opinion but seriously read back and what you have stated and im sure you will see yourself why it causes issues.

You mentioned nadz she came back and has since made threads about her kids not getting ghe school choices etc and this whole oh im a brit why not. Doesnt work like that. Anyway good luck to your cousin and hope she makes the right choice for herself.

Re: 7 months pregnant coming to uk for delivery

People are being so judgemental but at the end of the day, I very much doubt that if you spent most of your life in the UK and then moved to Pakistan upon getting married, that you wouldn't also come back here to give birth and probably also to get your child a British passport - would you really deny your child the same opportunities you had? The issues with the NHS are exacerbated by undue strain from people coming from abroad but they are not the cause and if they stopped coming things wouldn't improve very much at all.

(Off the actual topic but it seems she has Belgian nationality (EEA) and permanent residence in the UK as a EEA national, so there are no issues for her or her child).

parisbynight, I very much doubt they have removed your cousin unless she told them that she was leaving the country for good. She shouldn't worry, they have a duty of care here and they will make sure she is ready for birth and will therefore make sure any tests or ultrasounds that they need to do (this is for them as much as the patient) are done. What she should do is call her GP and just explain that she has been out of the country for a few months and get set up and appointment for as soon as she gets back. The GP will need to refer her to the hospital of her choice and to a midwife team but I don't think he/she will do this until your cousin has been seen.. she can ask all these questions on the phone because it may be possible that they can get the midwife referral and get her booked in for an ultrasound as well. In the meanwhile, she should decide which hospital she thinks she wants to give birth at and find out about the facilities they offer (birthing centre etc). At the end of the day, everything is dependent on how she presents to triage when she's ready to deliver but if all is well they will try to go with what's in her notes. Basically, at some point as soon as possible she will get her notes book and their aim will be to build it up as much as possible with test results and her birthing plan. She should bring all the test results she's had so far with her.

Personally, delivering in Pakistan would be unimaginable to me. You are not going to get the same level of midwifery care and the pro natural birth stance we have here. Not to say people don't do it successfully, but it's not a choice I would ever make for myself.

.

Re: 7 months pregnant coming to uk for delivery

Also she doesn't need to be seeing a gp since Feb! I know people who didn't need to see GP for 5 years becz they are healthy young people and they were never removed from the GPs book. If she has been away only since march she shouldn't have a problem.

Re: 7 months pregnant coming to uk for delivery

I was going to say the same, she's only been away since March, I doubt she'll have a problem at all. Then again I don't know anything about the UK but I have been out of Canada for 4 years and I am still covered. I have seen my doctor many times and usually they require you to travel back every six months to keep your healthcare but personally, I have never had this problem. But I don't know what NHS is. We don't have that here.

As for Canada and citizenship, my baby (iA) will be eligible for dual citizenship automatically as I am Canadian and my husband is not if we chose to apply for both, which we will. If your cousin is a resident (on route to becoming a citizen I imagine?) then she also shouldn't have problems. The British embassy in Pakistan should be able to give her all this info I think, they did for me in my case. Maybe not as helpful but I imagine the process isn't to different from Canada's system.
