So did anyone watch this film? I really want to watch it - seems different and probably good. Here is Taran Adarsh’s review. But if any of you people have seen it do share what you thought of the movie?
“7 Khoon Maaf” (Seven Sins Forgiven), based on Ruskin Bond’s story “Susanna’s Seven Husbands,” is Vishal Bhardwaj’s latest work. The director, known for the unconventional and often daring plots of his movies, this time brings on the screen the tale of a woman’s quest for love. But it’s no ordinary pursuit of romance: every time Susanna’s men fail her, she kills them.
Priyanka Chopra interprets the fiery Susanna, whose marriages go wrong (and then turn sinister). Her husbands are played by some of Bollywood’s big names including Annu Kapoor, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Naseeruddin Shah and John Abraham.
Critics warn Bollywood fans that because of its dark subject matter, the film may not appeal to everyone. And although the movie seems to have it all – love, murder and the stunning Ms. Chopra– many found the plot tiresome. Part of the problem, critics said, is that everyone knows where the film is going from its outset. But not all agreed, and many found the film’s narrative style engaging.
The film has also been selected for the ongoing 61st Berlin International Film Festival, where it is being screened as part of the festival’s “Panorama” program, which focuses on showcasing new works in the art-house world cinema scene.
**Taran Adarsh **on the website Bollywood Hungama](Bollywood News, Movie Reviews, Ratings, Latest Videos, Box Office Collection - Bollywood Hungama) gave the film three stars out of five. He praised parts of the movie, noting that some subplots work better than others. He said the real problem of the movie is that, after a while, it simply gets boring. “The uninteresting (parts) come in the latter half and coupled with its excessive length, the impact generated by a captivating first hour gets diluted in the process,” wrote Mr. Adarsh. (European critics at the Berlinale may have less to say against the movie’s slow pace…).
But Mr. Adarsh commended the movie for its originality. “Not just the unconventional plot, even the execution of the subject material is offbeat and quirky,” he wrote.
