6 Austistic children in one family

Was just browsing when I came across this story:

Here’s the story in video form:

and the print

Anyways, the story is that this couple had 6 children, and all 6 of them are on the autism spectrum. 3 have some level of Asperger’s syndrome, 2 are on the severe side of the spectrum, and the youngest is mildly autistic.

What really caught my attention was the fact that all 6 of them were autistic. the chances of having the next child as autistic is 15%. I was watching this other documentary where another woman had 2 children, and the youngest was not autistic. The chances of something like this is just so incredible though. And here is this family, with their 6 children.

Autism in itself is such a weird thing. A whole bunch of symptoms have been bundled up under one label, and they still don’t know where the cut off line is for one syndrome. They also don’t know what causes it. According to the newstory here it is a combination of genetics and something in environment. A lot of people blame vaccinations and the miniscule amount of mercury it contains that could contribute to it. There hasn’t been a conclusive study which proves or disproves this.

So anyways, just wondering what your viewpoints are on this.

Re: 6 Austistic children in one family

Yes I too was wondering that its such an off chance that all 6 children are autistic. Although I believe (at least in UK) that they have cleared vaccinations as cause of autism.

Re: 6 Austistic children in one family

Even in US, no vaccination contains mercury any longer. And it's not proven yet that mercury acutely caused autism. I was in fact talking to my son's pediatrician a couple of days ago and we discussed the topic in detail. She said that under no study they have found any evidence that autism was ever caused by mercury or any vaccination. It's just a myth or misconception found among people whose children have autism. They tend to think that their child had gotten autism after the vaccination at the age of 24 months. In reality the vaccination at the 24 months age is for Hepatitis A and that doesn't contain any mercury.

Re: 6 Austistic children in one family

i think the proper way to figure out what causes autism would be to not call it symptoms under the autism spectrum. it probably would be better to take each thing as a separate problem, and then see if it infact is environmental, genetic or a combination of it all.

at the same time, the argument about the mercury, the counter argument could be thousands of children who are perfectly fine after getting the innoculation. what is it that caused them not to have autism? did they just have stronger genes?

Re: 6 Austistic children in one family

I too have two sons on the spectrum. It isnt so much the mercury in the vaccines as it is the effect on the immune system. They give EVERY baby the same vaccines on the same schedule regardless of their health and weight status. If they dont have a fever, they get the shot. My most affected son was underweight and undernourished when given the shots. I completely agree with hindsight about the "safer" vaccination schedule. When you vaccinate a child, the immune system goes into overdrive and it isnt understod what and how many affects it can have. Yet vaccines are given in adult size doses regardless of weight or immune status. That is just wrong and needs more looking into.

Re: 6 Austistic children in one family

hmm i think you raise a good point. maybe the schedule for vaccinations shouldn't be so much a schedule as much as weight spectrum.
