5th ODI PAK vs. IND in Karachi on 19th Feb- 5am GMT/midnight NY time

Re: 5th ODI PAK vs. IND in Karachi on 19th Feb- 5am GMT/midnight NY time

Salman Butt should be replaced by Faisla Iqbal.

Re: 5th ODI PAK vs. IND in Karachi on 19th Feb- 5am GMT/midnight NY time

This has been a problem with all (almost) pakistani players, specially batsmen that they are not consistent. Look at salman butt. He makes a century in one game and he is relaxed, probably with thoughts: "meri jaga hun pakki ey teem wich". I ask a question who will you drop from the team and who you will bring in. When you are not sure that they might have same fate. In my opinion, changes are always needed when one lose the form and not performing for specific number of games. Look at Australia after losing Ashes. What i think important is to be mentally strong and "WILL" to achieve. Thats what paki players miss.
And what i learn from Inzi's body language is that he looks Tired or not 100% fit. I think it's not far that we'll see that inzi is sidelined not because of recent performance in the series as a captain or player but because of fitness.

Re: 5th ODI PAK vs. IND in Karachi on 19th Feb- 5am GMT/midnight NY time

We should come up with player rotation system like Aussies do.. every player needs a resting time so that they can think and reorganize themselves. Salman and all other Pakistani batsmen are great but sometimes they need to relax and take the pressure off and get re-energized.

Re: 5th ODI PAK vs. IND in Karachi on 19th Feb- 5am GMT/midnight NY time

Haven't seen Yasir Arafat's bowling, so can't recommend him.

Yasir Arfat is a known destroyer at domestic level, however he has looked extremly ordinary to me ... even Waqar was speaking really high of him... he has been given few chances here and there but havnt came up as any thing extra ordinary ...

Re: 5th ODI PAK vs. IND in Karachi on 19th Feb- 5am GMT/midnight NY time

Well u’ve seen Shoaib after being dropped, u’ve seen Sami after being dropped u’ve seen Younis after Inzi critisized him in public after 1st. Test in India last year … What i mean by dropping them is just to give them a wake-up call … if anyone of the above listed is dropped and he sees how his replacement is performing then he might look at himself + his performance and mindset from a different point of view … no where i suggested to drop them for a series or two but the odd 2 or three games … i’m quite sure that would help them to keep their feet on the ground

Re: 5th ODI PAK vs. IND in Karachi on 19th Feb- 5am GMT/midnight NY time

Zero_one Bhai,

Players of International level, are always under the scrutiny of Crazy Fans like you and me, and that too under a microscope.

I would rather suggest the Australian or the Indian way and that is to have a ranking or performance level pay check system, ok dont jump on me, remember it is a Profession after all.

Re: 5th ODI PAK vs. IND in Karachi on 19th Feb- 5am GMT/midnight NY time

Inzi should take some rest and make Younis Khan the stand-in captain. Faisal for Inzi, Yasir Hameed for Mohammad Yousuf and Yasir Arafat for Rana Naveed. Imran Farhat opening with Salman and see how this team responds. Yes, losing this series 3-2 is much better than 4-1 but we have to see how many players in our team are injured or suffering from fatigue from previous tournaments. It is not the end of the world if we lose this game too. World Cup is near and we need all these ‘boys’ fit for the big games. After all its weekend, can’t we all just sleep this one out? :phati: :rotato:

Re: 5th ODI PAK vs. IND in Karachi on 19th Feb- 5am GMT/midnight NY time

ok guys here is my team for the last match, we should play to our strength because 3-2 seems better than 4-1.

Imran
Shoaib
Yousaf
Inzi
Faisal
Kamran
Razzaq
Sami
Asif
Rao
Arshad
Yonis (Super Sub)

Yousaf shud be comming at numer three and he shud try to play the anchor rule like Dravid. Yonis shuld be played as super sub as he has not done well in this series.

Re: 5th ODI PAK vs. IND in Karachi on 19th Feb- 5am GMT/midnight NY time

Pakistan slumped to 3rd position in ICC ranking. I think if they lose another match to India, India will jump upto 3rd position and we will be 4th.

Well played India :k:

Re: 5th ODI PAK vs. IND in Karachi on 19th Feb- 5am GMT/midnight NY time

As far as India is concerned they should rest some key players and give other chance. India has long season ahead (Eng and WI tour). There is no point risking injury to key players in an insignificant game.
Also, this will give opportunity to promote other batsmen up the order specially kaif so that they can get back in form before Engish series.
I will say, play this line up

Gambhir
Kaif
Dravid
Yuvraj
Raina
Dhoni
Romesh Pawar
Agarkar/Murali Kartik
Zaheer
RP SIngh
SreeSanth
Supersub: Irfan

Tickets become scarce commodity

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Feb 16: Selling tickets for this season’s international cricket matches in the country has become burdensome for the private bank entrusted with the task.

This scribe witnessed gross mismanagement on Thursday at the six designated branches of Bank Alfalah as sale of tickets for Sunday’s final One-day International between Pakistan and India commenced.

Cricket enthusiasts received a severe setback upon knowing that tickets in the denominations of Rs1500 and Rs300 were not available at any of the branches despite being advertised in the media.

The second bad news was that the windows at the banks did not open at 9.30am, according to eyewitnesses who were made to wait in long queues. The situation further worsened when shutters were put down after a couple of hours of opening.

The hapless staffers of the financial institution could do nothing to bring relief to the masses since the entire operation was masterminded by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), who had ‘misinformed’ the general public through advertisements on Wednesday that the match tickets would be available at 15 branches.

According to bank officials, the tickets were not provided to the six branches on time by the PCB. Moreover, the number of tickets available was well below the targeted figure.

Those who were lucky enough to reach the windows got either one or two tickets each while the rest were chased away by the long arm of law.

Some of the agitated fans reportedly vent their feelings by damaging the glass walls of the bank’s Sharea Faisal branch.

Despite repeated efforts, the exact number of tickets sold on Thursday could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report, but one can sense it was only a handful.

With tickets in the denomination of Rs2500 already declared ‘sold out’ by a top cricket board official several days ago, manager of one of bank’s branches purportedly told a client that he would be available to arrange for the highest denomination tickets.

According to details, the said manager reportedly informed his client that a senior PCB official was willing to supply Rs2500 tickets at a startling rate of Rs5500 per ticket.

Pakistan’s series defeat in Multan on Thursday could force a majority of city’s cricket fans to stay home. But such has been the demand for tickets that people are willing to go through the hassle of purchasing them despite knowing that it’s going to be an inconsequential match.

Umar ruled out of final ODI

MULTAN, Feb 16: Pakistan will be without fast bowler Umar Gul for the fifth and final One-day International against India. Umar, who missed the fourth match on Thursday due to a hip injury, has been sent back to Lahore for treatment and rehabilitation.

Pakistan had also lost fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar and all-rounder Shahid Afridi due to fitness problems in the series.

The 21-year old Umar played in the first three one-dayers against India and has appeared in five Tests and 18 one-dayers.

Shoaib was due to see a specialist on Thursday to find out how long he needs to recover from a stress fracture of his ankle.—Reuters

Keep in mind the NZ has to play 5 ODI starting from tomorrow against Windies and NZ is right behind us on number 3. They will definitely be grabbing the number 3 spot or even number 2 by beating Windies in the ODI series.
Pakistan can stay on number 4 if they beat India in the last ODI. otherwise India will be 4th and we will be number 5.

Indian painter to draw pictures of peace

By our correspondent

KARACHI: Celebrated Indian painter Maqbool Fida (M.F) Hussain will create sketches of the final One-day International (ODI) match in Karachi on the theme of peace and friendship between Pakistan and India.

The 91-year-old, who is India’s most famous painter and film maker and who enjoys multifarious interests and passions, has reached Karachi to undertake his work during the final ODI, to be held at the National Stadium here on Sunday.

“We are very happy to see such a celebrated personality from India with us. He is also here to support and back the Indian cricket team of which he is a big supporter,” the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official Abbas Zaidi said on Friday.

So far no celebrity from India has shown up for the tour unlike in 2003-04 when during the Indian team’s historic tour politicians, film and TV stars and other sportsmen kept on reaching Pakistan.

Zaidi said Hussain would be provided all the facilities and a special place during the (Karachi) match to work on his sketches which will aim to capture the ambiance of the cricket series and highlight the themes of peace and friendship.

Hussain is a well-known public figure in India and is seen as a photogenic icon often embroiled in controversies especially for his dabbling in film making and paintings of women.

In 1966 he was awarded the Padmashree by the Indian government and in the following year he made his first film, ‘Through the Eyes of a Painter’. It was shown at the Berlin Festival and won a Golden Bear.

PCB ignores president and prime minister’s directives

By Rehan Siddiqui

KARACHI, Feb 17: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), running on ad hoc basis for the past six years, has made a mockery of President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz’s directives to end VIP culture, by issuing thousands of complimentary tickets for five ODIs against India which resulted in mismanagement and created law and order situation.

The PCB top officials before the England and Indian tours had unashamedly gone to the press claiming that they had got rid of VIP culture and even quoted directives of president and prime minister not to issue complimentary and free tickets.

The tickets farce has not only brought the game into disrepute, but also tarnished the image of the country.

The PCB top brass had even the audacity to admit that they had to issue free and complimentary tickets for certain individuals and enterprises.

Ticket holders were unable to enter the stadiums in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Multan while the law enforcing personnel and local administration officials managed to get their near and dear ones into the ground free.

One prime example was witnessed in Peshawar where more than 20 Indian journalists could not enter the stadium for a long time and were eventually let in by a strong police contingent using strong arm tactics.

Besides thousands of fans who went from pillar to the post to buy tickets were treated with disrespect by the designated bank’s staff as well as baton charged by law enforcement agencies personnel.

The blame entirely lies on the PCB officials specially those entrusted with the task of sale of tickets.

In the past when several banks used to sell tickets there were less problems in obtaining tickets

The same scenario could occur in Sunday’s final ODI at the National Stadium as tickets of higher denominations never saw the light of the day.

According to a PCB official the higher denomination tickets were “sold on the Internet as well as to corporate entities in Karachi, sponsors and provincial administrative partners”.

According to a rough estimate the PCB has obliged people of influence by giving away more than 5,000 free and complimentary tickets for the fifth and final ODI under the guise of corporate entities, sponsors and provincial administrative partners.

On Friday, PCB issued a press release saying that the process of sale of tickets for fifth ODI had been completed and only ticket holders should come to National Stadium for the match.

btw, India has decided not to play Tendulkar and Pathan for this match.
I was hoping India would field a full-strength side...series win or not- a loss is a loss...and is marked as such in the record books.
The only advantage I see in this move is that if India loses this provides for a ready excuse.

Re: 5th ODI PAK vs. IND in Karachi on 19th Feb- 5am GMT/midnight NY time

Some1 Bhai,

you are just thinking about the loss, lekin agar jeet gaye tou, it would be sone pe suhaga:D

Re: 5th ODI PAK vs. IND in Karachi on 19th Feb- 5am GMT/midnight NY time

^You are right.
But without Tendulkar (and with no other specialist batsman on the bench to replace him), India's batting will be severely weakened.

I think they are planning to do the following changes :
Pathan OUT, Zaheer IN
Tendulkar OUT, Powar/Karthik IN
Karthik/Powar - Super Sub

Re: 5th ODI PAK vs. IND in Karachi on 19th Feb- 5am GMT/midnight NY time

Really? what is your source for this news (Tendulkar n Pathan not being played)?

Re: 5th ODI PAK vs. IND in Karachi on 19th Feb- 5am GMT/midnight NY time

** Dravid two short of 9,000 ODI runs

**KARACHI: Captain Rahul Dravid is just two runs short of becoming eighth batsman in the world - and fourth Indian - to amass 9,000 runs in one-day cricket internationals (ODIs).

He can be expected to achieve the feat when he plays fifth ODI against Pakistan Sunday in Karachi. Dravid, who now has 8,998 at an average of 40.16 from 279 matches, will thus join team-mate Sachin Tendulkar, who leads all-time highest aggregate with 14,146 runs at 44.20 from 362 matches, Sourav Ganguly (10,123 from 279 ODIs) and Mohammed Azharuddin (9,378 from 334 ODIs).

Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq is placed second in the all-time list with 11,230 runs from 355 one-dayers. Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya is third with 10,512 runs in 354 matches while West Indies’ left-hander Brian Lara is sixth (9,359 in 259 matches) and Sri Lanka’s Aravinda de Silva seventh (9,284 in 308 ODIs).

Azharuddin and Aravinda are the only retired players among top seven batsmen, while Ganguly has been ignored for India’s last three ODI series, against South Africa and Sri Lanka at home and ongoing series in Pakistan.
