I seriously doubt that 'izzat' comment from Kumble.

Kumble is a South-Indian and its hard to imazine that he will speak such immaculate Hindi.

Well..If one is from Banglore city and has probably moved around all over India right from age of 15 ( due to cricket) and make friends all over the India then You can assume that He will speak pretty good Hindi. It may not be Izzat, may be Ijjat.. But you get the idea.. ..

A friend of mine who was very promising cricketter, at junior level and has played under-17 and under-19 with Dravid and Ganguly, says that Dravid speaks very good Hindi.

Few more thing he said...
They used to call Ganguly... 'hud-hud' because the way he used to be scared of fast bowler.

                          Also, How he and Dravid cried when they tried to jum into Calcutta metro without ticket and thulla got them.

Your theory sounds plausible but is obviously not universally applicable.

I know for sure that at least 2 players from South - Srikkanth and WV Raman did not speak a word of Hindi.

I also doubt that Srinath and Venkatesh Prasad speak much of Hindi.

A related anecdote :

I was watching this India-West Indies match at Feroz Shah Kotla many-many years ago…and this one guy from the audience goes up to the wired fence very close to where WV Raman was fielding and shouts at him…“Oye Raman…tumne chaddi pehni hai…?”…The audience in that section burst into laughter…Raman just looks back and gives an impression as if he has no idea what the commotion is about.

Harbhajan beating younis on his doosra*" paa jee yeah mera dosra tha"*
Youinis later in another over, after hitting harbhajan for his 3rd boundary "*Aur paa jee yeah meraa teesra tha" *

i watched the entire thing 2 c and chuckbhajan didnt say a word, i think it wouldnt b wise n e way 2 say n e things abusiv to afridi n e way!
