Is it possible to train for a 5k in 2 months? And how does one go about training for it? I know the couch to 5k but that’s in 9 weeks not 8.
thanks

Re: 5k
Heard a lot about the Couch to 5K programme but I'm not following it or any other programme for any particular duration. I'm just going at my own pace. I'd be happy if I can jog/run for 5K within the next 3-4 months. Initially, my goal was to be able to run 5K by the end of the year but you'd be surprised at how quickly you progress and so I'm sure I'll be able for it soon enough.
Re: 5k
Depends on your level of fitness. After 6 months of absolutely no exercise, i was able to do 5k walking/joggging in one hour, and within 2 weeks i was able to reduce my time. If i keep training properly then I'll be able to jog/run 5km in under half an hour very soon.. maybe within a month :-)
Re: 5k
I mean, it totally depends on the time you want to run.
Re: 5k
I am not bothered about time, just to be able to run it without collapsing. How did you start? If you aren't following a programme how are you doing it?
Re: 5k
I mean just get running. See how much you can do first. then you can build from there. You'll probably end up doing more than you thought.
Or you can just start off with 2.5 km the first few days and then build up.
Don't worry about time at first. Just keep running 5k... doesn't matter how long it takes. Once you are comfortable running 5k.. work on your time.
Re: 5k
I started with intervals.. in the street, i jog/run from one light pole to the next, and walk to the next light pole and run again at the next.
in the gym, i'll run with the timer, 1 min run, 1 min walk or run with the song's chorus and jog at the verse. That's how i built up
Re: 5k
For a two month schedule, all you can do is put in the distance. If doing 5k at a stretch h is too boring, just split it into 3x1 mile (4.8 km). Set aside the stopwatch. Rough schedule
Week 1. Run 5 days. 2, 3, 2, break, 4, 2, break
Week 2. Run 5 days. 3, 4, 3, break, 4, 3, break
Re: 5k
Week 3. Same as week 3.
Week 4. 4, 5 4, break, 5, 4 break
Week 5. 5, 3, 5, break, 5, 3, break
Week 6. 7, 3, 5, break, 5, 4, break
Week 7. Some speed workiuts.
Day 1. 12 x 400 m. At target pace. 200 m walk between laos
Day 2. 3k at 5k pace
day 3. 100 m fast run (at 75% effort), 100m jog 100 m fast run 100 m jog.
Repeat for 8 rounds

Day 5. 15x 200 at 70% effort with 200 m jog

Re: 5k
All distances in km unless specified as m.
Ks09 has good approawálk. run jog wálk - in other words random. There is a word for that - fartlek. Runners use that to prevent boredom.
