Re: 56% people say Musharraf worked did most for Infrastructure Development - Nawaz o

^^ the only problem is that it comes APP (Associated Press of Pakistan) which a govt run new agency...which has as much credibility as PTV. BTW, independent surveys (by IRI and TFT) show that 75-80% of the people want to see him gone. :D

Re: 56% people say Musharraf worked did most for Infrastructure Development - Nawaz o

Can you give few examples of big infrastructures which he approved and completed, which have any positive impact on economy?

I agree that there is difinitely improvement in media (technology, wireless, cable tv etc).

Re: 56% people say Musharraf worked did most for Infrastructure Development - Nawaz o

Definitely there are improvements in some areas like transportation sector (roads/bridges), water for some areas.

What about power transmission line which has been causing huge losses, loadshedding etc?

Re: 56% people say Musharraf worked did most for Infrastructure Development - Nawaz o

Let me repeat a question someone asked in another “survey” related thread:

Were the questions asked in English or Urdu?

BTW, Sa1eem bhai I am sure you are loving this survey

Re: 56% people say Musharraf worked did most for Infrastructure Development - Nawaz o

A few i Know are as follows:

1) Privatization of Steel Mills ( though it is not Infrastructure, but close to it)
2) Coastal Highway ( One can see the left over of the same)
3) A bridge in Karachi( again leftovers are there to be seen, one can make it place of tourist attraction)
4) Gawadar Port ( i think the project started in Nawaz era)
5) promise of Kala-Bagh and Other dams ( no govt. have made so many promises)
6) A dam in Balochistan probably Merani ( i don't know if it still exists or not as media is not allowed to speak about such events anymore)

more to be added

Musharraf an obstacle to Pakistan stability: survey

ISLAMABAD (AFP) — President Pervez Musharraf’s popularity has nosedived ahead of elections next week, with a majority of Pakistanis viewing him as an “obstacle” to the stability of the country, a survey said Thursday.

The poll carried out by GlobeScan for the BBC Urdu Service also said that half of respondents thought Musharraf’s re-election as president last November was not valid.

The survey is the latest in a series ahead of Monday’s parliamentary elections that show plummeting support for Musharraf, who seized power in a coup in 1999.

“The findings are gloomy news for President Musharraf and his allies,” it said.

Pollsters surveyed a nationally representative sample of 1,476 Pakistani adults from 27 to 28 January, one month after opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was killed in a gun and bomb attack.

According to the survey 64 percent said stability would improve if Musharraf resigned and 49 percent say his re-election was invalid.

Musharraf’s second five-year term as president was approved in November by a Supreme Court shorn of all critical judges after Musharraf sacked the outspoken chief justice and other colleagues under a state of emergency.

Musharraf also had a low approval rating – only 15 percent, with 72 percent saying they disapproved of the job he was doing.

Three-quarters of people said they would like him to resign.

Meanwhile, 44 percent said they were confident elections will be free and fair, and 51 percent are optimistic conditions will improve over the next six months.

Bhutto’s murder created a wave of sympathy for the opposition and also triggered a dispute over the cause of her death, the survey said.

Although a recent investigation by British detectives supported the government’s version of events surrounding her assassination, suspicions and conspiracy theories have persisted.

When the team carrying out the BBC-commissioned poll asked people who they thought was responsible for her death, almost 40 percent said they thought the Pakistani security agencies or people linked to them.

The poll was conducted before the release of the British findings.

Polls by two US groups with links to the Republican party published earlier this week also showed that Musharraf’s popularity had plummeted, with Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party surging into a lead with those questioned.

Re: 56% people say Musharraf worked did most for Infrastructure Development - Nawaz o

there is a huge difference between what the focus of the surveys are about - one is about whether they support musharaf and the oheris about what musharaf's regime did for the country.

if any one has travelled around pakistan they will see varioous projects especially road building, some education, some small dams, growth in call centre, IT relatd jobs, some lilttle push in the tourist industry, a smallpush in the environmental issues,
there has ben a job growth in media, IT, tourism, eating out, probably leisure sector

of course the growth would not match the high population growth and teroris relatedissues over the last 6 years. a friend of mine who came to england 8 years agofrom a pakistani village in the north argued musharaf hasdone nothing for thecountry exceptliberalise the media. he probably was at school for 8 years and left did nothing for the next 6/7 years andf then married a british pakistani girl and any information he read about pakistan was through the Jangand what people from other areasof north punbjab said which provided bulkof immigrants to the UK. he has no concept of themiddle class job sector and does not understand anything about it and nord o thepeople he mix with.

i think it would be fair only to judge musharaf on what he did for the poor?

Re: 56% people say Musharraf worked did most for Infrastructure Development - Nawaz o

He stool the last piece of grain from them. so now poor is not only working forward to make money but have to spare sometime to look for basic necesseties like wheat or flour

Re: 56% people say Musharraf worked did most for Infrastructure Development - Nawaz o

Well someone has to the the truth, rather that lies about how bad Pakistan is. :)

Re: 56% people say Musharraf worked did most for Infrastructure Development - Nawaz o

according to BBC survey 63% dont want Musharraf and the unprecedented economic and social instability.

Re: 56% people say Musharraf worked did most for Infrastructure Development - Nawaz o
