50, no 20 things we have learned from Gupshup?

  1. Pessimism: See instead of sticking with the original 50 things, I cut the “lessons” learned to 20, not because this site doesn’t teach you much, but mostly because posters overwhelmingly favor heavy-duty topics that help exhibit their command of the subject or their other-worldly tolerance for ad nauseam…so this frivolous topic can’t generate much interest. Not that prior to joining GS I could’ve accused of being optimistic, but the more I visit the site the bleaker the world looks.

  2. Topsy Turvy gender representation: Out of all the discussion boards I frequent (yeah I have no life) this one single-handedly renders the “sausage fest” perception of the interwebs as a myth. For those of you envisioning a matriarchal utopia, look no further. Any topic debated here will be ensconced in renowned female delicateness…except if its bazar forum and the lawn suit you ordered was mishandled, or you questioned the obscene amount of money for a bridal lengha then that delicateness dissipates and the verbal lashing you receive can reduce you to a shriveled little prune that met its untimely dehydration. Not that there aren’t any male voices, there are…but most are relegated to either nodding along or spilling their guts out in Pak or Cricket sections.

  3. Biryani Variations: Not sure if Guinness World record has taken notice of this, but apparently there are 20K variations of biryani. Added too much dhaniya in it…call it dhaniya biryani. Chicken didn’t tenderize, call it kaachi biryani. Masala container fell in the pot, call it masala biryani. What other dish in the world will let a person get away with so much improvisation and yet can still pass for some type of the original?

  4. Crowd-pleasing: Best way to solicit “likes”: Equal portions of conventional wisdom and unabashed faith. Topped with generous sprinkling of mock humility.

  5. Tolerance: Ok I’ve been a bit unfair in my earlier points, but really nothing riles me up anymore (except of course the infuriatingly slow walkers in cramped spaces…that animosity will only die when I can afford a limousine) after getting a healthy exposure to various perspectives on this forum.

Chalo jee, doesn’t look like we’ll get to 10 things!
What’s wrong with ma math?
Drive-by posters? You mean those who refuse to get suckered into never ending debates?

Re: 50, no 20 things we have learned from Gupshup?

I’ll list 5 things I’ve learned over my years of browsing:

  • don’t argue with diwana. dimagh ka dahi ban jaaye ga.
  • don’t reply when kkf quotes you. after some time, he will get the hint (maybe!)
  • wedding forum is an excellent one stop shop for wedding planning. Whatever I learned about Pakistani designers, I learned from gs :k:
  • blogs are a more realistic version of the life of a pakistani. Relationship forum, on the other hand, is very monotonous and depressing
  • don’t overshare and definitely don’t trust people too easily. It takes only one heated debate on, say, Christmas gift giving to lose trusted friends. And then who knows, they might post your picture in a public blog to get even.

Re: 50, no 20 things we have learned from Gupshup?

  1. If you are a female and posting in life 1, you must work outside the house, and must answer this question whether your issue at hand has anything to with this or not.
