This is the way to demonstrate. Peaceful, non-violent and respectful. :k:
None of the shameful carnage and thuggery displayed by the MMA miscreants in NWFP.
50,000 protest in Karachi
Around 50,000 people attended a peaceful demonstration here on Thursday to protest the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in newspapers across Europe. Meanwhile, a complete shutter-down strike was observed in Multan city and cantonment area and Dera Ghazi Khan at a call by 200 traders’ organisations. The main demonstration at MA Jinnah Road in Karachi was organised by Ahle Sunnat-o-Jamaat (ASJ). No one was hurt in the rally and there were no reports of damage to property. However, a few demonstrators burned the Danish and American flags at one point during the rally, but were immediately warned by the protest leaders. **“You may express your anger by tearing flags but you must not burn any flags or effigies,” **a senior ASJ leader said on the loudspeaker. The rally ended on the time that the organisers had earlier promised the authorities. After speeches, the participants were asked to disperse, and markets nearby opened half an hour later. “We had assured shopkeepers that no damage would be done to their establishments,” ASJ convenor Mufti Munibur Rehman told Daily Times.
A number of small processions started trickling in at the mausoleum and Gurumandir Roundabout from 9:00am. But within two hours, a sea of people had covered the length and breadth of one of the busiest roads of the city. The police and city administration had blocked lanes and by-lanes cutting across MA Jinnah Road for security, which caused traffic jams on alternate routes. The administration adopted security measures well before the people started gathering. Police and paramilitary personnel were deployed along MA Jinnah Road and surrounding areas, following violence during demonstrations in other parts of the country. The rally moved towards the overhead bridge near Tibet Centre, where a sound system had been installed. The rally appeared to stretch all the way back to the Old Numaish Roundabout. A partial strike was observed in view of the recent tendency of protests to turn violent. Several schools were closed while attendance at government and private offices was thin. “There was no call for a strike today (Thursday) but people stayed indoors, fearing violence during protests as they have seen in other cities,” said a security official.
Re: 50,000 people protest PEACEFULLY in Karachi against cartoons of Prophet (PBUH)
yep.. THANK GOD! This shows that Karachi is recovering from the darkness of the 90’s and 80’s when something like this would have invited a lot of trouble…
Now its punjabs turn to take up the mantle of backwardness and violence…
Re: 50,000 people protest PEACEFULLY in Karachi against cartoons of Prophet (PBUH)
Great stuff. There were large and peaceful demos in interior Sindh and Punjab as well, but apart from one day of incident in Lahore the violence has been largely in Mullah-ruled NWFP. These Mullahs know they are fast losing out to moderate forces, hence they have to resort to such shameful violence to show they still have some "clout". Anyway congrats to the people of Karachi.
Re: 50,000 people protest PEACEFULLY in Karachi against cartoons of Prophet (PBUH)
^ And what do you think about those 50,000 bearded people doing protest with out any violence, that shows that it was NOT mullahs who ignited the violence but clean shaven butt heads of agencies.

tmx305,
Be careful with your constant liberal use of foul language and avoid any troblesome situations that those who disregard forum rules often find their selves in.
I'd hope this would remind everyone of how they should actually behave and interract in a harmonious way.
Re: 50,000 people protest PEACEFULLY in Karachi against cartoons of Prophet (PBUH)
And what did these nice people get for their efforts?
Nothing. Western media focused on the one crazy mullah who offered 1M bounty on the cartoonists head (not that he had the money, but he watned to parrot the bounty on OBLs head).
Why are we protesting? Nobody is listening. Protesting does not work.
Look, we know our nations are all third world...consequently, we ALWAYS have issues with crowed/riot control. Any protest is bound to see a bit of violence...and the Western media will always focus on that. Most of us abhor violence at these protests...but the fact is, it's going to be used to shut us up whenever we talk about this.
One man can subvert the message of 50 thousand. Is that fair? No.
We are fools if we think we can have an intellectually honest and clear discussion in this environment.
Protesting is doing nothing, so we may as well knock it off now and think of meaningful ways to empower ourselves.

Who said protest is not doing anything. I say peaceful protest is the most powerful thing that all muslim countries should do and try and boycott the products from Denmark. I mean if their government think that the freedom of press is more important that it can offend the morals and belives of other people than I would say the hell with this freedom of press. Freedom should be used responsibly. Fredom of press doesn't mean that you have the right to print the trash that could offend billions of people personally and starts riots and cause deaths of innocent people. Who didn't know that by printing those images Denmark's press would cause a giagantic problem, who do they think they are kidding. But the violent protests and burning of other countries flags and killing innocent christians is way out of line. I think they are acting as irresponsibly as the Press of Denmark did. But they should have seen this coming ahead of timeor may be this is what they wanted from billion of muslims of world.
Re: 50,000 people protest PEACEFULLY in Karachi against cartoons of Prophet (PBUH)
Why boycott? You may be hurting people that actually agree with you (not all Danes are for the editors on this).
Peaceful is fine, but then...who's your audience? They're not listening to you.

I agree...and the hundreds of thousands of protestors who protested peacefully agree. Now, compare the coverage they got with how much coverage the handful of violent actors got. By even conceding this "point", you've effectively let those who want to smear us dictate the pace and nature of the discourse. This is my main point. We can't allow this because it cheapens the value of the peaceful protesting...we should NOT have that ignored so casually.
Why are we not more forceful on this? Why are we apologetic? Did you burn anything? No. Do you agree with those who did? No. So why are we being asked, and why do you feel it necessary to, account for their acts? Pakistan, Egypt, Syria, etc. all have laws, and all we have to do is simply point out that it's the security officials duty to carry them out (without shooting the protesters, which is what they ended up doing...and what did our beloved Western audience do? Blamed the peaceful protestors of course...).
The BIG difference between our violent criminals and the editors is...well, we view the violence as criminal, whereas a good number of Westerners view the cartoons as heroic. There is no bridging that gap, and there is no way a Westerner will subject himself to any discomfort by us challenging their cherished value. They'd rather deflect the conversation away to other issues related to Islam or Muslims.

I am sure we rather that the least bit of what we can peacefully do to let the danish government acknoledge that the press is wrong is by boycotting their products. This will help them realize the justification. There are over 1.6 billion Muslims in this World if we all stand up for what we believe in peacefully and boycott the Danish products it will trash the Danish economy. We, 1.6 billion muslim can make a difference.
Who is my audience. I think with all due respect you need to look around a bit. Bcz every where on every forum where there are muslims. every email server, and every country, muslims like me are spreading the words about boycotting the Danish product which will be peaceful slap on their economy by jolting their economy to make them realize that we can make difference.
Also that you mention that western countries justify us as violent people by showing violent protes of some others. For your kind info I don't really care what west think of us as long as we belive and follow our Islam and I belive most of my brothers and sisters think the same way too. West is never going to give us a medal of Pece core no matter what we do so why do we even bother caring about what west think of us. We are all proud and peaceful people and as long as we know that, than the hell with the westerners.
