5 Years of the Q League

Re: 5 Years of the Q League

Admittedly good things happened. You have to remember though, inflation sky rocketed tremendously, and that douses a lot of good deeds significantly. Not to mention the severe crisis of flour (atta), cookering oil (ghee), unprecedented load-shedding and gas shortages. On going issues in Waziristan, Swat as well as the whole CJ/emergency mess also are very bad spots for the incumbant government reps. All these are either current or very recent and weighed heavily in the minds of the voters.

I don't think there is much long term future for PML-Q. These guys have no particular ideological or political loyalties or strong positions. All PML's have historically just been getting anti-PPP and vote. People vote for them either for biradari loyalty or if they don't want to vote for PPP. And since most voters don't want to vote for religious parties, so voting PML helps rid of their guilt concious. PML is moderately conservative and scores high on religious points compared to PPP.

So chances are bright that PML-Q parliamentarians will ditch the highly polarizing political figures (Chaudhries etc) and join with the wave of Nawaz Sharif. Based on at least one news report today, Nawaz has already invited PML-Q elected leaders to come back into the mother party.

If this happens on a big scale, then we are back to good ol' musical chairs of PPP (left of center) and PML (right of center), 2 party system, plus some regional/ethnic (ANP, MQM) parties as well as some religious parties.
