5 Years of the Q League

I can understand why most people here are anti-Q but in reality neither PML-N or PPP or any better - if anything they are probably worse. I think Q’s biggest failure was the whole CJ case which alienated Punjab from the Mush/Q-league. On the flipside I feel that from 2002 to early 2007 was one of the best periods for Pakistan except the Bugti and Waziristan mess.

What will happen to the Q-league now is hard to say - will they carry on as an opposition party if PPP and PML-N make a coalition? If thats the case they will be a weak opposition party indeed.

  1. What have been the the main achievements of the Q-leagu since coming into power?

  2. What did they fail upon?

I believe one of the major achievements of the last 2 years has been the work on the transport infrastructure. Roads have been built and improved especially in far flung parts of the country such as Balochistan. Some of the roads around Quetta are excellent and then there is the Mekran coastal highway. 2 examples of roads in Balochistan although on the same stretch Quetta to Ziarat:-

Then theres the completion of the motorway from Islamabad to Peshawar, the Kohat tunnel, work on the Lowari tunnel and improvement of the Indus high way from D I Khan to Karachi and Lahor to Karachi.

Before project funds were embezzled but now it seems as if work is completed and theres more accountability. Once upon a time Pakistan was a country where if a million ruppes were thrown at a project the people involved would eat most of it laving the project unfinsihd or half-complete but now it appears as if that projects are done and completed. Maybe I am wrong.?

There has been a growth in jobs within Pakistan within the last few years but this will always be offset by the ever-high birth rate.

The consumer class has increased - the number of Pakistani’s wanting good services and products has multiplied. An example of this is Daewoo buses that run between various cities - if anyone has travelled on these buses they will know that these buses are clean, comfortable, customer-orienated, punctual - better than public transport in England thats for sure! These buss set off at their given time even if only 1 seat is taken.
Pakistanis no longer have to put up with filthy local buses driven by unsavoury people with ill-mannered bus conductors.

The number of pricey and foreign eateries within Pakistan is always going up and up. The media, internet and mobile technology is driving ahead quicker than most can keep up. The latest trend is taking employees on holidays to farmhouses away from polluted and congestd Urban areas.

I dont think I can write anymore - would take too long. Whats the genral opinions of pople here. I am trying to base my opinions on what I have observed and experienced rather than what I have read in newspapers.

What will we remember Q by?

Re: 5 Years of the Q League

Admittedly good things happened. You have to remember though, inflation sky rocketed tremendously, and that douses a lot of good deeds significantly. Not to mention the severe crisis of flour (atta), cookering oil (ghee), unprecedented load-shedding and gas shortages. On going issues in Waziristan, Swat as well as the whole CJ/emergency mess also are very bad spots for the incumbant government reps. All these are either current or very recent and weighed heavily in the minds of the voters.

I don't think there is much long term future for PML-Q. These guys have no particular ideological or political loyalties or strong positions. All PML's have historically just been getting anti-PPP and vote. People vote for them either for biradari loyalty or if they don't want to vote for PPP. And since most voters don't want to vote for religious parties, so voting PML helps rid of their guilt concious. PML is moderately conservative and scores high on religious points compared to PPP.

So chances are bright that PML-Q parliamentarians will ditch the highly polarizing political figures (Chaudhries etc) and join with the wave of Nawaz Sharif. Based on at least one news report today, Nawaz has already invited PML-Q elected leaders to come back into the mother party.

If this happens on a big scale, then we are back to good ol' musical chairs of PPP (left of center) and PML (right of center), 2 party system, plus some regional/ethnic (ANP, MQM) parties as well as some religious parties.

Re: 5 Years of the Q League

I am surprised they let these things happen especially with the election looming. I think the 2002 to early 2007 was vr good bt the last few months were a disaster.

What about what they achieved in health, education, social uplift.

Re: 5 Years of the Q League

so did he invited Chaudary Pervaiz elahi?

Re: 5 Years of the Q League

People don't honor Pakistan for its improvements as of late!

However, I don't know if much of it is due to the Chaudrys' leadership or its due to Musharraf - he had these public works projects on agenda from day 1 before any Chaudry came in the picture.

This is what drives a country forward - is creating jobs.

If they can get their birth rate under control, and if they can improve health and sanitation, they'll maxmize their human resources. I'd like to see women get more involved in society as well.

Interestingly, did anyone see in a report in Dawn, that the "democratic" parties like PPP, PML, etc were involved also in banning women from voting in certain areas? I guess the Taliban aren't the only one who know how to make a woman grovel in dirt, instead of treat her like an equal citizen.

Re: 5 Years of the Q League

the amount of aid they got was in billions dollars. so i dont know what impact million ruppee road produces on economy, especially if they were built like Northern Bypassbridge was built in Karachi.
whereas Daewoo buses also need good roads. and i think you are referring to Motor-way which was built by NS govt.

rest of the main issues are already addressed by faisal so i dont need to go over them. :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: 5 Years of the Q League

Re: 5 Years of the Q League

Till last February, Opposition parties and their calls for protest against Musharaf was treated as a joke in Pakistan. Niether Nawaz Sharif's PML (N) nor PPP had any public sympathy.

The great development in Infrastructure, Telecoms, Media has given Pakistanies good life style, which they never nad before, many new business generated, Foreign Investors liked Pakistan and Investment was coming in, The actions against govt. officials and releif for the poor were in the favor of Musharaf as it was his govt. who did it and then Musharaf shot himself in Foot, not once but thrice, not many people can survive after hitted by 3 bullets.

1) 9 March, Sacking of CJ.
2) 12 May, Dancing on killing in Karachi
3) 3 Novemeber, the Emergency

these events trigrred the Flour, and edible oil scandals and people held Musharaf and his allies responsible for all these.

Musharaf Instead of catching and prosecuting the bad guys started his Ration Scheme, which by all means was a joke.

Now, if one minus 9th March incident ( mother of crisis) from the Musharaf's era, no opposition had any chance to win the election and Mush and Allies might have enjoyed the fruit of their good work and achievements... but i don't know what they were thinking whil spoiling all their hard works of 4 years.
