A wrong opening by Andhra Govt.
Muslims are a religion and not a cast or race. I do not know if this reservation law will cover neo Muslims, I mean the people who will join Islam next to enter reservation quota.
In last election many Hindus voted against BJP, because they will not happy the way BJP led govt handled the Gujrat riots. And now the same Hindus must go against Congress.

Declaring Muslims as a backward class, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced a five per cent reservation for the community in educational institutions and jobs.
A government order issued on Monday evening by the backward classes welfare department said the five per cent reservation would be “over and above the reservation presently provided to backward classes”.
THis is looking out for minority rights. India should do more for the minorities like dalits, gays, muslims…they are one and the same and need greater protection and opportunities.
Classifying on the basis of religion is not secular.
Should they have separate reservations for Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, Parsees, Zoroastrians, Bahai’s and Jews too? Go along that road you might end up with more quotas than jobs or institutions.
Muslims have separate civil laws for them too. That is what accomodating a minority means. I am with you. Muslims shouldn't be treated differently. Muslim civil laws should be done away with along with this stupid quota system.
^ Agreed. It would make things a lot less complicated. They live in a country they should be expected to follow its laws, whatever they are. You won't even have to deal with pretending to accomodate anyone either :)
In fact, Jinnah would be very happy had he been living today. That's what he wanted ... minority rights where they deem threatened in Muslim majority side or the Hindu majority side.
How Hindus will accept this new agenda of Congress party? Congress party is not a friend of Muslims; it is friend of its vote bank only.
Congress can implement this law all over India.
Is it a curse of being Hindu in India? Will not Hindu psych look for other adjustments? Today after the implementation of this reservation law in AP, many secular Hindus do not want remain secular any more.
And off course what is wrong with Sikhs, Buddhists, and Christians? Are they not backward and poor?
Will this new reservation law cover the ‘Neo Muslims’?
I wish we got an opinion on this subject from some Indian muslin guppies resident in India. Some of you might be offended that muslims in India have been declared a backward class community but how do Indian muslims feel about it? Particularly in the light of reservations which is such an advantage in India.
