At least five people were killed and 10 others wounded Monday in a bomb blast in a troubled town in northwest Pakistan near the border with Afghanistan, police said. The explosion took place on a busy road in Dera Ismail Khan, where a teenage suicide bomber attacked police earlier this month, killing seven people. The town also has a history of Muslim sectarian violence. “The bomb, which was planted on a bicycle, killed five people and wounded 10 others,” local police official Abdur Rasheed said. The bomb went off minutes after a provincial lawmaker, Khalifa Abdul Qayyum, had passed by the area. “It is not clear whether Qayyum was the target, but our investigation teams have rushed to the site of the blast to collect evidence,” Rasheed said, adding he could not say whether preliminary information pointed to a sectarian attack.

These blasts should not be Shia vs Sunni kind of thing. As right thinking individuals it is important to realise that ordinary people are getting killed for no fault of theirs. It is easy to sit in an armchair and blame the Americans for the whole mess. There might be some truth in it, but it is also important to realise that the whole Islamic world is not doing anything to help the situation.
