5 children die of hunger in Kohistan

It is getting desperate. The report is about 5 children dying but clearly there must be many more not such deaths not being reported.

Problem is that aid is coming not just from international donors but Pakistanis themselves have for some reason stayed away. If we don’t trust the government then there are many NGO’s working for it as well. When there is a will there is a way.

PESHAWAR: Five children died of malnutrition on Sunday in the Kundian Valley region of Kohistan.

The recent floods and rain had badly affected the Hazara division’s Kohistan region, forcing the Karakorum highway and other connecting roads to close down, completely cutting off the region from the rest of the country.

“The government had completely failed in coordinating relief efforts for the flood victims,” said MPA Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa Assembly Abdul Sattar Khan.

He also said that there was a huge food crisis in different flood-stricken parts of Kundian Valley, Sapt Valley, Patin and Dobair. Five children have already died due to malnutrition, he added.

“The number of casualties, due to malnutrition, is expected to rise if the Karakorum highway and other connecting routes are not opened to bring in food for the flood victims,” said Khan, emphasising the severity of the situation. – DawnNews

I believe Pakistanis are working and supporting privately through NGOs but the disaster is so huge so widespread that its hard to see which area is getting help and who was that help supported/sponsored by. Awaam is probably staying away from 'govt' relief agencies.
